Warenski's contract is designed where he can just accept his QA for 7 million dollars and bridge himself to UFA (or go to ARB if he prefers but that isn't guaranteed).
He is paid one of the most expensive bridge deals ever.
His totals have been from sheltered minutes.
It is not a very good deal.

cool the other charts this guy has implies he's pretty valuable to the team

Will anyone honestly vote "no" on this one?

Theoretically one could vote “no” if they’re looking long-term, and the “cost” of not signing him up long-term could mean more money being spent in the long run.

I had that thought briefly, about voting “no”. But it lasted about 2/10 of a second before I decided the pros outweighed the cons.

Sheltered minutes? dude what are you smoking? He plays 45% of his start on the ice in his own end. For a 1st pairing D man that isn't sheltered.
It's also unlikely he doesn't sign and plays on a QO or ARB. A. most cases don't make it to ARB, and B why risk injury with no contract. The offer makes a lot of sense for both parties. The reason it's cut short is because you are looking at cap increases. Expansion and new TV deal. Both of those will hit in by the time this expires. The team can then make a pitch to him long term, knowing what the cap is going to look like, instead of worrying about it now. I'm about certain that is why you see this.

Look at who he has been playing with. Panarin and Jones. They have been 'helping him along' (which is my nicer way of saying carry).
Also (the 2nd tweet; the 1st is just spitballing):

Dude when you are a 1st pairing guy you are going to be playing with the 1st team!

If you actually watched CBJ games you'd know no one is carrying him. He was an 8th over all pick ffs, he's got a ton of talent and it shows when he's on the ice.

With Werenski at 3x5m what do the other RFA D-men come in at? Assuming 3 year deals I think: McAvoy $6.25, Carlo $3.5, Provorov $3.75, Pettersson $3.75, DeAngelo $6.5 <- (that one will probably cause controversy)

6.25 is too much for mcavoy due to him being a group 1 rfa.

Ahh yes the 'actually watch the games' argument. Arguing that your eye test is better than multiple professionals charting stats. An excellent argument for certain. rolling eyes

Also this to your last argument on the term:

Never said he wouldn't improve, but this is too much for too little term as it is now.

those seem to show that he helps on the PP and offensively 5v5 but is bad on the PK and is very bad defensively 5v5

That's not really the same situation.
Toronto has to deal with crazy ass Paul. There is no such drama around Zach.
I'm not saying that the price tag doesn't got up in year 4. My point is come year 4, it's a long term deal because they have the numbers to work it out. I don't think he's hitting FA. MM on the other hand, crazy ass paul can't wait to stir that pot.

i thought + threat implies the player is better in that zone. so i'm not sure how he's very bad defensively 5v5 when the team is +4 with him on the ice and -7 without.

on the defensive end a positive number implies that the other team gets more unblocked shots. A positive number in the offensive zone is good, a positive number in the defensive zone is bad

Not only do they not have to worry about him for the next three years I would’ve given him 6 million a year for those three years so this is a steal

how so? i stated earlier. this team gets 3 years of 5m cap hit. They arent contending this year or likely next year. So then potentially in the third year they can be contenders... which also means after that 3rd year where they are possibly finally in contention they have to resign both of their top pairing guys to lucrative deals. which negates the saving they just had. this is assuming they have the cap to do so or one of them gets traded away for pieces or just let go and cant be retained.

A brilliant deal. Hopefully he stays at Columbus beyond this contract. Probably one of the best bridge deals atm.

except his QO is 7m. which means you get 3 years at 5m and the 4th year at 7m unless they reach an extension. not a great bridge deal. looks like it. but its really player friendly and not at all team friendly.

Great contract. I truly felt this was the year the RFA Dmen could really set a new precedent on their contracts. Provorov, Werenski and McCavoy should have been the first 3 RFA dmen to get 6M on a shorter term semi bridge contract at their ages. IMO. Anything less is a major win for the teams I feel.

He'll most likely be traded if they don't reach an extension. That 7mil QO isn't the worst possible thing by far. You seem to be a pessimist. And lol at you claiming CBJ aren't contending this season or likely the next. Give me the lottery numbers please.
