If the Leafs were to trade Perreault and a 1st for a 5th (basically nothing), that implies that Perreault and the 1st essentially cancel each other out. If you factor that in to the Marner deal, you are essentially trading Laine, a 2nd and a 3rd for Marner, in which the Leafs would easily decline.

As mikeb98 suggested above, the Leafs decline. Think the Leafs would prefer to have multiple picks from an offer sheet (or equivalent) and cap space instead of Laine.

Or at the very least move Ceci and keep Perreault if it means keeping the 1st.
