Description
Capitals is my team, but what fun is it to be interested in the league if you don't have a decent idea of your opponents?

This is my outside look for the Blues line-up. Is it reasonable or do you - fans of the team - see other likely line combinations or pairings at defense? Who's got that special chemistry with another players etc.

On the blueline, I have a default thought of one left- and one right-handed D-man on each pairing, hence Bortuzzo in the line-up. Guess it could be a re-volving door for some places, since it might be wise to share the ice time after most of them played a long season in 18/19. In general when doing these predictions, I only have one healthy scratch D-man, so I question myself if Blues will carry two extras or only one? What makes me doubt, is that none of the eight can be sent to AHL without going through waivers.

Among forwards, I only see Blais' 3RW position as questionable. Guess both MacEachern and Fabbri will get chances in the bottom-six. Suppose Kyrou is in the mix as well, but he can be sent to AHL without passing waivers. That will be a factor, right?

My ideal lineup for the blues just my opinion because I like to spread talent across the lines:

Sanford-O'Reilly-Taransenko
Schwartz-Thomas-Perron
Schenn-Bozak-Kyrou
Steen-Barbashev-Sundqvist

Dunn-Pietrangelo
Bouwmeester-Parayko
Edmunson-Bortuzzo

It's a good thought and it would be hard to match against those combinations, for sure.

interested to see how they handle Thomas and Schenn playing wing or Center.
1. Schenn wants to play center, although I think he is better suited on the wing.
2. If they trust Thomas as a center defensively yet.

My guess for what opening night looks like would be:
Schwartz Schenn Tarasenko
Perron O'Reilly Thomas
Sanford Bozak Sundqvist
Steen Barbashev Blais

Dunn Petro
Bouw Parayko
Eddy Borts

Not bad but I think that for the beginning of the year they will stick with last years lines

Schwartz-Schenn-Tarasenko
Sanford-O'Reilly-Perron
Blais-Bozak-Thomas
Steen-Barbashev-Sundquist

Dunn-Pietrangelo
Bouwmeester-Parayko
Gunnarsson-Bortuzzo

I think Kyrou will probably make it if all he has to do is beat out Blais/Mac/Fabbri. I also think if Gunnarsson is healthy he should be Pietrangelo’s partner for the majority of game situations. He’s the Blues best penalty killer and his defensive possession metrics are very strong which works perfectly with an aggressive Pietrangelo.
My ideal:
Schwartz-Schenn-Tarasenko
Perron-O’Reilly-Thomas
Sanford-Bozak-Kyrou
Barbashev-Sundqvist-Steen

Gunnarsson-Pietrangelo
Bouwmeester-Parayko
Dunn-Bortuzzo

This would be cool. I would do the lineup like

Schwartz-Schenn-Senko
Perron-ROR-Kyrou
Barby-Boz-Thomas
Steen-Sunny-Blais
Fabbri/Sanford

Gunn-Petro
Dunn-Parayko
Bouw-Edmundson
Bortuzzo

I like the forward pairings of Schwartz-Schenn, ROR-Perron, and Bozak-Thomas. The rest can be sorted out, but giving Kyrou the opportunity on the 2nd line could really spark him, and he would make up for the lack of speed between ROR and DP.

Oh yeah, either Thomas or Kyrou on that line would make a big difference I think. Neither Perron nor O’Reilly are particularly strong in transition and Thomas and Kyrou are both very good. I’m a big Sanford guy as well and I think he’s definitely deserving of a top-9 spot whereas I kind of think Barbashev is a 4th liner through and through. Definitely hope the team goes away from Bouwmeester this year but I don’t think that’s happening without an injury. Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing Borgman as he had pretty good results two years ago in Toronto. Would be fun to see:

This is the closest one to likely (although it's also possible Fabbri goes in for Kyrou, who is coming off a spring injury and may need some AHL reps before breaking into the line-up). I'd say it's about 99% that your D pairings are spot-on.

Most of the lineup is good but man you are really really down on Schenn and I don't know why you want to put Tarasenko with O'Reilly instead of Perron and keep Tarasenko with Schwartz. Even with his down year last year he hasn't put up under 54 points in 4 years and even last year was a slow start and a late surge coming off a 70 point season the year before. He's a streaky guy but who isn't and he's a no doubt top 6 player. I do agree that Kyrou makes the jump, Sanford is to O'Reillys left if he's in the top 6 and that Thomas could certainly crack the top 6 (as a 2C or a wing) but I think the Thomas jumping to the top 6 thing depends on Sanford falling out of it

My ideal lineup is the same except for switching Sanford for Schenn, Schenn for Thomas, and Tarasenko for Perron but probably the best lineup has Thomas at LW on the 3rd line and switches Gunnarsson/Eddy (let's face it those two are interchangeable) and Dunn because while Dunn is much better those are better playing style fits. The reason that is better is because the O'Reilly-Perron line seems to be able to elevate whomever is on LW not named Jaden Schwartz and Thomas and Kyrou can make beautiful music together and other than putting Dunn and Thomas on third lines that puts the best players on the best lines while keeping good fits/chemistry together
so:
Sanford-O'Reilly-Perron
Schwartz-Schenn -Taransenko
Thomas-Bozak-Kyrou
Steen-Barbashev-Sundqvist

Gunnarsson-Pietrangelo
Bouwmeester-Parayko
Dunn-Bortuzzo
