I get what you've been saying about adding a two-way guy to that line, but I think they're better off with a guy who fits their playing style, that being a fast playmaker. When looking at the line combinations involving Cat and Strome last year, they played most with Kane, Kahun, and Perlini. None of these lines had very good possession numbers, with their CF% all being under 50. While that seems bad, their usage wasn't meant to be a possession line, but rather a primarily goal scoring line. So, if you look at their GF% instead of their CF%, the Kahun and Perlini lines were among the best that played last season.
Last year, their defensive shortcomings were magnified by the complete lack of defense behind them, but now that Bowman improved the blue line, I think the issues can be masked while the scoring can continue if they play with another fast playmaker like Kubalik, Nylander, or Perlini. If they put Saad or Shaw with them to babysit defensively, the possession numbers might marginally increase, but in the end their production will dip and they won't be able to provide what they are asked to provide because their playing styles won't match.
First of all, I have no idea what you're saying when you claim Debrincat-Strome is a fast line....Strome is SLOOOOWWWW...horribly slow.
Second, Kahun was one of the better defensive forwards last year, wasn't scared to play the boards and fall back...that was the thing that everyone liked about Kahun...plays 200ft.
Lastly, if you look deeper into the advanced stats when Kane was double shifted on that line it was for offensive zone starts. Additionally, look at odd man rushes and high chance opportunities for the opponents...who was on the ice?
Why wouldn't Saad fit on that line? He's a hell of lot faster then Strome.
