Puljujarvi Trade Suggested by Friedman

Team: 2019-20 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 10, 2019
Published: Sep. 10, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
According to Elliot Friedman (from 31 Thoughts), this is what EDM is asking for from TBL for Puljujarvi. I personally think this is really bad for TBL, but what does everyone else think?

Would not do it. Volkov is a potential 4th liner for Tampa this year due to little weaker depth, and he was already fairly close to making it 2 years ago. And a 2nd round pick obviously.

Pulju is no 4th liner. It's either top 9 or bust and i don't see where the Bolts slot him.

Puljujarvi is a year younger than Volkov and has played NHL games whereas Volkov has not. The Lightning really could do something along these lines because why not put Puljujarvi on a line with Stammers and Palat and have him play top 6 minutes, When he was on the Oilers he never was given the chance especially with a lineup that the Oilers iced anytime he played.

I hope to god this doesn't happen because the Lightning don't need the possibility to get any better, but if I were the Lightning I would accept.

I think that is too much for him. Volkov is going to be an NHLer if not this year next year and that second round pick is almost guaranteed to be at least a bottom six NHLer as well. I think if they make the move for him it is a lower level prospect like Sommpi or yan and a pick. The Oilers are not in a position where they have much control.

TB does not need a prima donna, If he does not get top six minutes in Edmonton, why would he get it here. Volkov will have a good year with the Bolts.

In terms of Poolparty, I am not sure if that is too much from Tampa's perspective but I would think that if this player is not going to be a complete bust, Tampa is the sort of well run organization that could develop and harness his talents properly, so there is that. Its risky though.

Why do you think he can't play a checking role? He's huge, he's a good skater, and he's always been known as a 2-way type. In Edmonton we always hoped he'd turn into a Jere Lehtinen type player.

Late 2nd rounders are NOT "almost guaranteed to be at least a bottom six NHLer" - not even close to the truth. Look back and see just how many players from 50th pick to the end of the 2nd round actually became useful players.

There are a couple of hits every year, but mostly the players picked here are complete misses.

I think its fair enough. If I was TBL I would gladly take it, its medium risk but a huge upside if Puljujarvi can gel with some of Tampa's vet forwards in a middle 6 role. Everyone hates on Pulj but hes only 21 and I would put most of the blame on EDM for his lack of development, not on him
