Carlo for Ehlers

Created by: kscoop
Team: 2019-20 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 10, 2019
Published: Sep. 10, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ehlers perfect fit for 2RW long term. Losing Carlo isn't ideal but you have to give to get.
Also slightly over the cap but can easily send a man down or best case scenario find a new home for Backes, LTIR or another team. I decided to keep K. Miller around for size and experience on the back end.

B's have to throw in at least a 1st for this to be a consideration.

2nd line winger for a 1st paring shut down dman. I don't think so.

Carlo isn't a first pairing dman though. I don'tthink there's a team in the league who would play him top 2.

None whatsoever. You obviously don’t know me at all. Or the B’s organiztion or it’s needs and depth.

I am usually calling out B’s fans for homerism.

And the teams depth on RD after Mac and Carlo is non existent. Miller is on his final year. Injured. And a trade candidate when healthy. Clifton is a nice story but he is still nothing more than a low end 3rd pair man. Kampfer is a roster filler. There is nothing else in the system. Andersson was another Sweeny reach and is years away if he ever makes it at all. The rest are AHL depth. They can’t replace Carlo internally.

As to your claim he is not a 1st pairing D man. He isn’t. But he is not far off either. Corsi metrics had him rated #35 RD last year. Just outside of 1st pairing. He also improved greatly as the season went on. He will never provide a lot of offense that will always hold him back. But he skates well, has size, reach, and good in both ends. The lack of big offensive numbers and the presence of Mac will keep his contract manageable and lower than it what it should probably be. Having him as B’s #2 is about as good a situation as they can have. They will find a serviceable wing.

only reason carlo isnt a top pairing dman is because mcavoy is playing ahead of him. Carlo could easily be a shutdown top pairing dman on another team. He wont score you alot of points but he cant play excellent defense.

This is one of the best Ehlers trades I've seen so far this summer. Well done!

I also think the Bruins say no. I just put it out there to see if it works. Bruins would be thin on RD but would boast arguably the best two lines in hockey.

Jets would probably more inclined to do this as they are hurting on defense and have to pay Connor and Laine.

Everybody has them trading for a RD because they lost Trouba and Myers. I think they need a LD more. After Morrisey there is nothing. Kulikov and Beaulieu suck. Stanley isn’t ready. Rest are AHL caliber. Right side has Buff/Pionk/Niku. Not ideal but better than their left.

About 42% of the league would have Carlo as their top pairing RD

Toronto
Buffalo
Arizona
Vegas
Edmonton
Chicago
Vancouver
Detroit
Islanders
Tampa
Anaheim
Ottawa
Colorado (need to see more of Makar)

You put Carlo in Toronto and they quickly become a real cup contender

Vancouver, Chicago and Edmonton get real good, real quick. Tampa becomes almost unstoppable with an shutdown RD & same with Colorado.

Let’s break this down:

Toronto: He’s not better than Barrie, but most likely he’d play with Rielly due to His great defence.
Buffalo: you can argue him or montour. Time will tell
Arizona: Yeah
Vegas: technically Schmidt plays right side so he’s not better than him
Edmonton: Yeah
Chicago: Yeah
Vancouver: Yeah
Detroit: Yeah
Islanders: need to see more or puluck
Tampa: Yeah
Anaheim: Manson is better
Ottawa: Yeah
Colorado: I think makar will be better by playoffs

Barrie Orr? Give me a break. Barrie is excellent offensively but horrendous defensively and Leaf fans will get to see this first hand. An ideal top pair is a 2 way dman paired with a defensive dman.

Think about a paring of Hedman/Carlo (good luck to other teams) or Reilly/Carlo

If Carlo was a LD he and Mcavoy would make the best paring in the league.

He is better than Barrie. Much Better. Not as good offensively. But Barrie's career Corsi 49.1 vs Carlo 52.1 Fenwick: Barrie 48.7 vs Carlo 52.1
Not that +/- tells a complete storty, but one guy is a -59 for his career while one is +41 The guy who is the +41 doesn't really put up a ton of points. One guy. Barrie had 5 more hits. 100 less hits and 20 less takeaways.
I would take Carlo over Schmidt. just me. I think if the Bruins offered Carlo for him the Knights would take the deal in a heart beat.
Agree on Pulock. That one made me pause
Him and Manson are close. I might favor Manson, but Carlo will certainly be better when he is Manson's current age.
Makar - could go either way.

He made some decent points. Will not convince me on Barrie. Krug is better than Barrie and if someone told me to chose one. I would take Carlo 100 out of 100 Times.

Manson, Pulock and Schmidt are pick ems IMO.
