I feel like ANA would rather have Faulk. Since Faulk only has 1 year left they can have him sign an extension right away. With Petry they have him for 2 years but there is no guarantee that he will sign for longer, since they will have to wait until the following season before offering him an extension

Faulk is also 4 years younger

Great job, your D is weak so you make it worse.... Carolina just get an easier path to the playoffs.

You do realize that this isn't reality right?

For sure they'd rather have Faulk, but rumor is that they're having a hard time negotiating an extension
He won't approve the trade unless an extension is in place
It might fall through...

The term difference cuts both ways -- Petry won't have to be protected in the Seattle expansion draft, whereas an extended Faulk would. And, plus-minus figures can be deceptive (Faulk was plus 9 while Petry was minus 5) -- Petry is better defensively than Faulk. Add to that the fact that he is better offensively, and I might rather have Petry than Faulk, even with the age difference. I can't wait to see how this rumor pans out.

Faulk might be demanding a contract more or less equivalent to Petry's -- 6 years (expiring at age 33, just like Petry's) for $5.75MM (inflation-adjusted). That will force Anaheim either to expose Fowler or Faulk to Seattle or make a side deal like the one with Las Vegas that cost them Shea Theodore. This is getting to be as interesting as the Laine and Marner sagas.
