Malkin has 2/3 seasons left at best. Colorado would rather potentially 5-8+ of Makar , likely at least 7 more of Makar

I know Avs fans hate this cause Makar has played great in 10 whole games now but Mackinnon, Malkin and Kadri? RIP Western conference

Even if it's just makar for malkin 1 for 1, Colorado still says no.

They'd just be the Toronto of the western conference. Great forwards but no defense. First round exit at best.

*points to Calgary series*

Was Makar THAT vital last year? Pretty sure adding secondary scoring behind Mackinnon would improve the team.

They still got Girard and have Byram and Timmins coming up. I really like Makar's potential but Malkin can still bring it

This is 100% correct, Byram is what makes this trade. Mackinnon needs the support.

You don't trade a Calder favorite/potential superstar right defenseman for a 33 year old star center who's struggled to stay healthy and is making 10 mil until he's 36.
Plus they already added secondary scoring in kadri and donskoi. And they're hoping most takes the next step and adds to that secondary scoring

I feel like a lot of hockey fans have forgotten who Malkin is. Last season was a down year for him where he *only* scored 1.06 points per game. The year prior he had 98 points so its not that crazy to think he can bounce back. I agree that Makar has a ton of potential but Malkin is a proven commodity and one of the best players to ever play the game. Since Colorado has an abundance of quality D prospects, a ton of cap space and are desperate for secondary scoring, this is a trade they would definitely consider.
