he just saw them pay Tavares Mathews and nylander then he puts up 90+ points and you think he doesn't want to be paid too. idk if thats what id call ego.

That’s optimistic. I think people are trying to offload Ceci in the process which lowers Marner’s value then they add to offset Ceci, like Bracco here. People are also trying to find a perfect RD trade. In this situation I think the best bet would be to take the best package available even if it doesn’t address your immediate needs.

That's honestly a very credible trade.

The Canes now have an elite forward core, while the Leafs now have an elite D core without downgrading the offense too much (Teravainen is a 20-25 goals player after all).

I would assume however that Ceci is only a cap dump and that the Leafs had to add something to the trade (Bracco)

Maybe not bracco. I'd rather add someone like SDA, timashov, scott or a combo+ a pick. I would love this trade but Carolina might not do it.

Harpur wont make the team

So what is the Marner contract? Teams aren't trading for unsigned Marner Should be the same as Aho, but if 10m, Canes are over the cap with this trade.

Hes only the 3rd best and probably the 5tg most important player on the team but wants to be paid the most because he didnt get his B bonuses 3 years ago. Hes offended because he was only offered a contract that would make him the highest paid right winger in the salary cap era.

so hes not important trade him I guess. Hes skilled as hell and deserves the money though. Hard to say he should get less money because he has good team mates.

It’s not hard to say...he hits 90 points once Tavares arrives, not before. It’s not like in the season prior where he hit 64 or whatever you thought “yeah this kids hitting 100 next season”. No one thought that. Once Tavares arrives he hits 90+. Thats not a coincidence. Tavares is the guy who deserves 11, not Mitch

11mill over 7 years is reportedly what was offered to Mitch. Not sure how that is not getting paid considering it is the exact same contract as Tavares and 3 mil more than Nylander...

If Bracco is the difference between making this trade and not, you 100% do it without thinking.

It wouldn't be the end of the world giving him up. If they could keep him and trade someone else I would be happier but we cant have everything

People keep saying this as if it's true. Tavares took less than market value. Nylander started at Draisaitl money. They overpaid Matthews for the term but there would have been a legit offer sheet concern that Toronto would have had to match given his star status, thus either saving money or at the very least a huge headache. Marner doesn't have that leverage.

If 11x7 was on the table back in June it would have made Marner the highest paid winger and tied for third highest AAV in the entire league. An unprecedented offer for a 22 yo winger.

I looked at Bracco and he is clearly a player that needs to play top 6 or top 9 to fulfill his potential - here in TOR no chance he gets to play (especially in his position) with Nylander, Teravainen, and Kapanen occupying the RW and with Johnsson and Hyman on the left

Yup. And it's still not enough.

From what Bobby Mac is reporting Marner turned down that contract offer because its leas term and aav than AM... it's the Matthews contract or bust for our little buddy..

At this point I really hope Dubas can swing a trade. The level of pettiness that Marner has brought to these negotiations is pretty absurd and dysfunctional. I think the leafs need to take a long hard look at committing long term to a personality like Mitch/Paul. Dysfunction like this tends to have an impact on others..

The problem with a trade is that alot of other teams likely dont want to deal with him and this nonsense either.. not to mention that no one really has the cap at this point.

so if a trade can't happen I hope Dubas holds the line and they let Mitch sit and stomp his feet in the corner for a year. The kid might need some time for a reality check of sorts

im not saying he deserves the most but its an argument he can make and seems to be holding the leafs over a barrel.
