Description
My out-of-the-box idea for fixing the Sabres this year. Let me know how ridiculous this is in the comments, but keep in mind this is Jim Benning we're dealing with here ;)

Trades

BUF
  1. Baertschi, Sven
  2. Madden, Tyler [Reserve List]
  3. Tanev, Christopher
Additional Details:
Trade completed asap (before regular season)
2.
BUF
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (WPG)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Completed on or before trade deadline, Tanev plays top pair minutes with Dahlin to boost trade value. With Bogosian on LTIR roughly until Tanev is traded, the cap works out
WPG
  1. Tanev, Christopher
  2. 2020 5th round pick (BUF)
3.
BUF
  1. 2020 5th round pick (ANA)
4.
BUF
  1. Weise, Dale
  2. 2020 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Completed at trade deadline. Scandella provides depth at a lower salary than Weise. He is from the area and has over 500gp, MTL likes the price and swings a deal
MTL
  1. Scandella, Marco ($2,000,000 retained)
  2. 2020 7th round pick (DAL)
5.
BUF
  1. Toffoli, Tyler
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
Completed at trade deadline. Samuelsson has value equal to a late first/early 2nd in the draft. His NHL readiness is more appealing to the Kings than a pick, and the market for Toffoli may not be very big.
LAK
  1. Samuelsson, Mattias [Reserve List]
  2. Wilson, Scott
  3. 2020 4th round pick (MTL)

I'm fine with the Vancouver trade, but I can't say the same of the other trades. Buffalo trading for another RHD is also something I can't see happening. If it's with the canucks, I think it would be Risto for something like Virtanen and a B level prospect.

The point of getting Tanev is to flip him, so it's not like they're acquiring him for long-term. Including him helps shed cap for the Canucks though, giving them more space to sign Boeser.

It's a 3-way trade. Buffalo isn't trading for another RD, Winnipeg is.

Edit: apparently it's not, although it should be.

Id pass. We need a competent center and a rw who can score, i dont see that here. Getting late 2nd, a late 3rd, and sven baertschi doesnt make me wanna move ristolainen. And wasting a retention spot on a net negative cap trade doesnt make sense. Plus tanev makes bogosian look durable, so you would have to keep him in bubble wrap just to make sure hes available to be traded. I thought tanev was worth a first, im sure i read that a few times on here.

If Risto goes to Vancouver, the ask would be a center or top 6 RW. So either Horvat or Virtanen. Sabres would have to add for Horvat and Vancouver would have to add for Virtanen

How about Buffalo give Pittsburgh the same package for Nick Bjustad, Bryan Rust and a goalie prospect like Tristan Jarry? We would also have to a another player to fit under the cap. One of our defensemen.
