I was being serious though? Trouba has been a good defender with tons of upside for years. He will be fine in NY. Idk if the same is said for Morrissey in winnipeg.

Jets have shared their Dmen responsibilities since they had a deep group of Dmen in the previous years. Hey, I like Trouba and Morrissey. Both guys will have be even better to help their teams now. But they are young and good and are now going get paid for their expanded roles on the ice.

This is great for both the player and the team but I don't see a discount here.

Finally something good for the Jets. Interesting to see how RFA dmen are signing much more team friendly deals.

I dont think this is a "great" deal like everyone else is saying. Pretty fair for both parties though.

Abseloute steal for the Jets. Needed good news, considering Laine & Connor situations.

It’s weird. Everyone in Winnipeg thinks Trouba is not as great and benefitted from playing with Morrissey. Outside of wpg, people believe Morrissey benefitted from playing with Trouba. Time will tell, but I think they are both very good on their own

They didn't get bitten by not doing this last year! ?
This guy is a top pair defenseman, soon to be top 20.

Just as good as Girard's deal, depends what you thought of that one.

I wanted Trouba to stay but Morrissey is the better defenceman. Less error prone and his advanced stats are better than Trouba 5v5 in both zones

except that Girard's deal expires when hes 29 and Morrissey's deal expires when hes 33. I think they both have similar upside and Girard will be paid $1.25M less per year

EDIT: that being said, Morrissey is definitely the better D man right now, but hes also 3 years older than Girard

Exactly. WHo compares a D with a RW?

Someone who let's their hate for a team seep into a logical discussion.

Good deal for both sides on this one. Actually Winning can be the winner if Morrissey keeps improving.

No Leafs fans this will not be Marner’s new comparable

You're are right ... he's definitely no Marner.

He's more of a Pesce comparable ... too bad he wouldn't sign for $4,000,000 x 6 like Pesce ....

The real question ... how much will Laine and Connor cost?

What about all the actual top 20 d-men who are making less than $6,250,000 with term .... ?

Jones
Slavin
Rielly
Ekholm
Parayko
Lindholm
Klingberg
Etc.

I think you're getting a bit carried away friend.

Yeah that's pretty fair, I think considering this was after last year's bridge deal they did amazing. And I would say the longer term is a positive. With Girard you're likely to either overpay a player in his prime so you don't lose him to UFA. Morrisey won't be overpaid at 6.25 with where contacts will by the time he starts declining. He'll still be a good player when the deal expires.

All of these guys except Slavin expire within three years. Really good deals when they were signed, but when all those guys (except Slavin) expire Morrisey will still have six years left.
His deal is the updated version of the one's you've listed.

Great contract. He's not wanting money, he just wants to play hockey. Respect.

*He doesn't want a insane amount of money. If he didn't care about money he would sign 8*700k
