I love that deal, if top tier is 9/11 millionish, his deal at 6.25 is going to be a bargain for its 8 year term

I don't think Detroit is ready to pull the plug on Svechnikov yet.

Whats your estimate that morrissey left on the table, my estimate would be about 1.75 and be a 8 million dollar defenseman in his prime, kind of a top end of the second tier, glad the jets showed the appreciation and understanding to the little things and making the guys around him better, as long as he can stay healthy.

    Chevy working his magic!
Contrast this to the near UFA style RFA deals the Leafs have been signing, and what the top defenseman that are UFA's are getting. I mean Trouba got eight and an NMC. IMO Morrisey is as good or better.

That's a great value contract, really hope now Chevy can get one of those out of either of the RFA'S but that doesn't sound hopeful.

Morrissey left a decent chunk of cash on the table to play in Winnipeg....

With the way things have played out this off season. Wouldn't Winnipeg's main focus be defense? If Winnipeg ends up having to trading Connor or Laine wouldn't the smart move be to acquire a top pair defensemen or a prospect with top pair potential? Even losing Connor or Laine they still have a lot of offensive talent but the a lot proposals I see here most having have forward/s as the center piece of the deal coming back to Winnipeg.

I think he would have gotten just over 6.5 now and just under 8 next year. So .25-1.75M.

I think a shutdown top pair rd would be the selling point (or a prospect that could become one). The jets don’t really have any other glaring long term needs

Also remember that this is a year away and assumes that svechnikov holds similar value as to what he holds now

It could really be any other prospect 1 for 1 since I don’t think the jets have room for Stanley. With samberg likely having 3ld and niku/heinola filling out the 2ld and 3rd, Stanley doesn’t have a spot. Kovacevic would also be knocking on he door. Therefore I see Stanley with retention being traded for a rental or for another prospect in a similar situation

The actual value Stanley for Svech is pretty even considering neither of them have done much at the NHL. Svech doesn't have a lot of value now so it really can't go down that much and the Wings aren't going to be good so why not give him a shot.

I’m thinking that they give him a shot but he doesn’t hit the ground running. Only 30ish points. So an nhl ready potential giant top 4d would suit the wings better imo. Svechnikov gets a fresh start and Stanley gets a chance

After losing Trouba, Meyers and Chiarot I figured you want to hold on to such a promising defense prospect.

He doesn’t have as much potential as samberg and heinola (top pairing) and they will occupy the left side with JoMo for a while

It’s just that the jets have too many good d-prospect and it’s time for some talented forward depth that we could trade for more later once hey develop
