Description
The Truth about Mitch Marner, let's talk about possible offer sheets. There are 5 teams that have the space and could make a reasonable offer to Marner. 1. The Wild approximately 5 million in space if they quickly move a 4 to 6 million to another team they could potentially put forth a 5 year 10.5/11.5 offer (that's it will take to even get a discussion going) plus 4 1st rnd picks!! Let's say they do - Leafs walk away have fun in Minny kid. 2. Kings again about 6 million in space could probably clear enough room and again let him walk. 3. The Ducks. 4. The Blue Jackets ( really the only realistic playoff team) and finally The Senators and we all know they will NEVER pony up the cash. So let's say it's October 15 and he's still not signed - the Leafs will have about 8/9 million in space left. Even an Offer Sheet at 8.5 x 5 is still a haul of picks and leaves them 9 million to improve the team.

My 2 Marner Offers are:

11 x 7

8.75 x 3

That's the Truth he's either Playing for the Leafs or he gets them a massive draft haul while leaving them with a fantastic amount of cap space or he's playing in Switzerland or whatever ****e league for at most 2 million a season.

Marner wouldn't do 8.75 x 3. I would just do the 9.5x3. Have for 3 years then trade him.

Bluejackets are a playoff team? I don’t think so.

It’s an interesting analysis about offersheets. A GM could give Marner the term that he wants (5yrs) but the most $ would be 10-10.5 million. This would require giving up two firsts, a second and third round pick in a draft year that is supposed to be very deep.

My question is...would Toronto match a 5yr 10-10.5 contract?

Then I make him sit, it's been quite obvious that signing Marner is the catalyst for the rest to sign, so if Marner won't sign 8.75 x 3 (which is an overpayment) then let him sit. There are only 3 teams that have the picks to put that offer in an offersheet, there are 5 teams that could hit the 4 st compensation. There is absolutely no reason to pay him what he wants just to get him to camp. The team will survive ,will still be a playoff team with out him
