I like the idea of the jets adding Honka, especially with Buf dealing with something, but I would put Poolman over him right now. The jets see Poolman as a top 6 dman right now and will give him and Niku every opportunity to make the team. Still adding a talent like Honka makes sense for the right price, I dont think a 5th gets it done

Hes stuck in dallas, you'd think they should at least get something back

For sure, I just dont think a 5th gets it done. Maybe a 3rd with a mid level prospect? The guy is a former first rounder who has shown signs in his development of being a NHLer. Hopefully he isnt adding to the list of former first round busts

I would like the gamble for Honka by the Jets.

I think a pick(s) can get the job done, but a 5th rounder is low and there will be interest from several teams around the leauge which will drive the price up and not to mention the Jets are also in the same division as Dallas, so the cost will most likely be at minimum a 3rd rounder or more if the Jets want to sway Dallas to trade him within their own division, knowing there is always a chance he could develop into a good D man they play more regularly throughout the season and possibly playoffs.

I agree that a 5th isn't enough, but IMO and a lot of Dallas fans have said it themselves that they expect a 4th back for him. As we are in the same division, I'd say it would be far if the Jets offered a 2021 4th and Spacek for Honka. I think that gets it done.

I get that, however I don't think the Jets would part with a prospect currently in their system for the chance to gamble with another coming in. Nothing wrong with using a 3rd to over compensate for the trade within the division

Spacek isn't anything special. He's a 22 year old C prospect that is stuck behind a lot of players on the depth charts. I don't see him cracking the Jets roster this year or next. Honka on the other hand has looked solid and I think he could make a difference immediately. I see this trade as a big win for WPG.

Well I am not saying I am opposed to that exact trade, just giving a more realistic scenario of what the return from the Jets may look like. As many know the Jets prefer to hold on to their prospects and for good reason as they are able to develop them and either use them in house or as trade bait.

I wouldn't call it a big win right off the hop as it will be years down the road when the true value of this trade would come into light, but I do think it is worth the gamble and that Dallas would probably find more value in a higher pick from us as opposed to a lower pick and a prospect. I agree Spacek is nothing special but C prospects, similarly to D propsects, are not often moved as easy.

Especially since there has been a verbal request for trade, the value may not have to include a prospect anymore. Always a tough situation for the management, the Jets understand that just as much as anyone.
