Toronto killing the cap? They're the reason most of the NHL teams haven't folded yet, they literally make more than any other team in the league, but when they start to spend it for themselves they're a stupid organization? k

I don’t know how much it’s going to change, but the current offer is $5.7m x 3 according to LeBrun, and it’s not like Marner’s AAV was any surprise.

Point at $9M is $10.5M anywhere with high local income tax.

What does Toronto and the Easter Bunny have in common? .. Both never see May .. Leafs are overpaying losers .. really a joke organization.. $34M to 3 players? .. only playing with 21 contracts now? Yeah that a winning formula

But back to Point .. to me this cements him north of 9M .. strategy of waiving/stashing Domingue and Condon pushed cap room to near 11M to sign Point and leave abit

But back to Point .. to meet this cements him north of 9M

im all down for constructive criticism, however when you are saying the leafs are overpaying losers, and that they're a joke organization it makes it abundantly clear that you are just bitter. if you want people to take you seriously about anything I'd recommend toning down the emotion.

IMO point probably signs around 7-8 x 3, the third year has a salary of ~10mil so his qualifying offer will be 10+

It’s not impossible because we can probably afford that this year, but that AAV is quite far from where BriseBois is right now.

I mean they’re setting a dangerous precedent. It’s not like they weren’t spending to the cap before. And taking dead contracts/hiring the best coach is how they spend their money. Now a bunch of guys are going to get overpaid using Marner as a comparable. That means less money for vets because “welp, we don’t have cap room, so here’s a minimum contract”

Bad news
Ok so Let’s say it’s an overpay......what “should he have been paid, 6x 9.5??? So it 1.25 high which means the have to pay 4th line minimum.

Good News
They have a GM in Dubas who figured out how to get Tyson Barrie for 1/2 price and kerfoot as a throw in.
Who figured out how to turn 5 years of Zaitsev at 4.5 into Ceci for 1 year at 4.5
Who talked spezza into playing for 700K

Bolts GM has assembled a great team.....will sign Pointe for 3x8.4 somehow.

You know what I think is hilarious, the bolts operating with a 30 percent advantage in cap space. And who btw, lasted 2 games less last year then the “overpaid” leafs.

Go leafs Go

When was last year Leafs were in a Conference Final? TAMPA .. for all its lack of leadership and toughness issues has been in 3 in last 5 years .. Tampas flaw is overpaying homegrown shrimps with NTCs .. will bite us next year

You do realize the NHL has a hard salary cap right? The Leafs are not in the same situation as the NY Yankees.

Marner contract isn't a surprise and won't affect Point. Dubas may have made some good trades (although he hasn't actually signed any of those guys and has 1 dman signed past this year) but has indeed screwed the pooch signing his own guys. He seriously shat & played in it with that Mathews contract. He was under NO obligation to do that. I recall the big selling point when Stamkos was UFA was all that millions that could be made in Toronto doing tire commercials, etc. So why arent' Mathews and Marner taking team friendly contracts and raking in all that tire money?

Tampa lifestyle > Tire commercials nod

Who would have chosen the 2nd option? Seriously frakk tire commercials... Why do you think Matthews wants out in 5 years? Bank on it that he leaves instantly when contract is expired...

Good choice Stammer! rock on
