I don't there needs to be a condition on the 2nd round pick. Maybe make it a 1st if Brodie signs. Good job on the contracts!

I just think Detroit values Glendening fairly high. Has 2 years left on a team friendly deal, is a veteran, heart and soul guy. I'm not sure what 1 year of Brodie means to them if he walks in free agency, since they're rebuilding and aren't expecting too much this season.

I don't really see a reason for Glendening for the team besides being a cheaper contract than Brodie's, It's not like we need an upgrade for the bottom 6 centers, especially with Dube pushing for a spot. I'm pretty certain Tre is set on only trading Brodie if it upgrades our top 6 (ie. the Kadri trade) and this does not do that.

Thing is Dube is a waiver exempt player, so unless he really pushes his way into the line up, having him as a scratch player and grinding in the bottom 6 doesn't help his development very much at this point. He's better off getting top minutes and consistent PP time in the AHL, then getting called up as injuries occur.

At this point expecting a top 6 F upgrade for Brodie, isn't really a viable option I don't think, unless other players are involved, or an extension is guaranteed.

Glendening is on a good contract with 2 years remaining, he can play either wing too, and adds more to the bottom 6 than any of the other options, or potential PTO signings.

But why would Detroit do this deal? they are rebuilding and giving away an early 2020 2nd and a team friendly contract for a rental is counter-intuitive.

How is expecting a top 6 upgrade for Brodie as the core trade piece not viable? Extension and other pieces can certainly be part of the trade deal.

Your argument for the PTO's is flawed, subtracting Brodie for Glenening is significantly less value then singing a PTO at league minimum, Flames bottom 6 is pretty strong already there is no reason to look upgrades, if it ain't broken don't fix it.

It's why the 2nd rounder is conditional, and it's Washington's 2nd round pick, not Detroit's.

If you think a PTO is a better option just for cap purposes I get that. My only question is: does Brodie have as much value as you think? Especially if Tre gets Chucky and Mangiapane signed and the team is in cap problems?

They lose a lot of leverage, and if it's Brodie or Frolik getting moved, we're probably downgrading somewhere in the line up as both are potential 1 year acquisitions if they don't re sign with their new team.

The return might only be prospects/picks at this point anyways, and we know what the guarentee of prospects and picks panning out are.

As Detroit fan I have to say thats excellent summation.

I just don't see Detroit doing this as mentioned above Brodie is a rental and really doesn't help Detroit. So it's a cap dump from Detroit's point of view and instead of giving up a draft pick they should be receiving the draft pick.

Ya for sure, the wings need some help on D, the trade would be contingent on whether they feel comfortable on re signing Brodie. He's from Ontario, so geographically the location could work out.
