Debatable. Chiarot added to the same bunch from last year which was about as bad as there was in the league. Chiarot and having Kulak for a full year is definitely an improvement. Still below average.

Kings decline anyway.

Looks like a fair return for Martinez. Has both the things Kings are looking for. High round draft picks and expansion draft exempt prospects. Kings would likely accept.

That's news to me. However I don't think Martinez is the type of LD they are looking for.

Kings could get better for Martinez.

Not significantly. A 1st round pick would be too much for Martinez if the Kings aren't asked to take back a salary dump or retain heavy salary, so I think a second is fair. The condition shown above is almost guaranteed to be met, so this would be a 45-50 overall pick, with a small chance of being a lottery winner.

Teasdale is a solid B- prospect and is expansion draft exempt. I don't think Martinez would warrant the return of a blue-chip prospect, but I could see the Kings asking for slightly better. Ylonen or Ikonen maybe, but they're not going to be able to ask for someone like Brook.

I think this is a decent trade proposal and probably the best we can expect from the Canadiens. The Kings might be better served trading Martinez to a team that would require them to retain salary so they could ask for additional compensation in the form of a higher draft pick or better prospect.

I would rather retain 2m (half of his contract) for two years and get the most for him to a different team. Most likely a playoff team.
