1. too many roster players
2. Simmonds should almost certainly play on Hughes line (unless the synergy is downright awful. Neglecting last years points since he was pushed down the line up in Philly, Simmonds is a .6+ ppg player. He is also a big physical guy and Hughes and Gusev are questionably 5'10, Wayne will be out there to protect the 2 new guys.

100% agree on the 2nd point, but you could drop Bastian down to the AHL since he is waiver exempt to get to 23 roster players.

I agree with this. Furthermore, how long into the season is it before Hughes is on the wing and not center?
Not only is playing center more Physical but the size disadvantage on faceoff is problematic.
It's going to be interesting to see what his FO% is this year. I have my limits on when it's time to throw someone out the circle. Usually it's under 40%. If you are low 40% you better have McDavid level of production. Otherewise, enjoy your time on the wing.

Also Gusev and Hughes on the same line seems a mistake. They are both rookies at the NHL level. Gusev is use to more ice.
My guess is Hall centeres the 2nd line at some point and Hughes is on his wing. Gusev is on Hischier wing.

But we'll see.
