Great deal for both sides. It's about the same as the Werenski deal, Boston gets a huge bargain for a couple of years, and with the 7.3 mil QO, McAvoy is still gonna get his payday when this contract ends.

McAvoy is the only one of the 3 who is actually worth the contract they got, so the fact that he got LESS is insane value for the B's.
Goddammit.

Werenski will have a 7m QO and McAvoy will have a 7.3m QO.

McAvoy makes 300k less on his bridge contract, but he'll get back his 300k with his QO.

Same deal after all

The biggest thing was McAvoy wanted a short-term deal. Which helped Boston a ton.

ok, that was not what I expected. Thought you were talking about Carlo and JFK (as they are the 3 Bruins RFA this summer). I mean Werenski's contract isn't that horrible, the thing about this contract is that the Bruins will need to pay a ton more 3 years later

Seeing these bridge contract structures is interesting. Sure McAvoy get 300k more in his QO than Werenski but rarely do high profile players have to rely on them. Usually they get extended before arbitration. Then the QO doesn't really matter.
So it seems like teams are using the higher QO as a dangling carrot to get the cap hit down. I guess it protects the player if they have 3 crappy years but I think these guys are too good for that to happen.

Its only the same deal if both players sign a 1 year contract at their qualifying offer when the bridge deal is done. But that's unlikely to me. So as of now, McAvoy's contract is 300k richer. Both probably resign a multi year extension bigger than their QO. Assuming they continue to trend up

The key in this deal is the base salary of the 3rd year. $7.3mil. So McAvoy is almost guaranteeing himself a giant pay raise on his next contract. but in 3 years $7.3mil might not be bad at all, so good deal!

I don't know, people want to say this is a good deal but I'm not buying it.

McAvoy has injury issues. His production because of it was a lot lower.
Is he a better player than ZW, not sure on that. 5 million is a lot to have tied up in guys who miss a lot of games. I would have signed him to less and said show me you can stay healthy. I don't know if he can. Players know he has injury history so he's got a target on his back from any bad actors. When Chara retires I think this kid gets run.

lol

Watch him play all 82 games this year and put 50+ pts like you want

For the " not sure if he's better than Werenski "
That's a steal/perfect deal. mcavvsweren-1.png?w=607&h=500
