Let barrie walk and keep Andersen. We have good young offensive dmen coming up, and stable reliable goaltending is more important than having barrie

Anderson will want $9.5M-$12M, we need young goaltending. Keeping him is not an option. The TV deal won't affect the cap until the year after. So not possible as much as I'd love to keep him.

If the Leafs lose Freddie, they will have to win lots of high scoring games, it can get you to the playoffs, but that’s as far as you’ll get without elite goaltending

You need adequete goaltending, look at Binnington, he wasn't elite, he was just good, he wasn't a Vezina candidate, look at Pittsburgh with Murray and Fleury, not elite goaltending, but good goaltending, look at Quick in LA, or Niemi in 2010 with Chicago, you don't need ELITE goaltending, you need hot goaltending. Bobrovsky is an elite goaltender, has 1 second round appearence in his career

I "liked" this comment but I want you to know I'm letting the Quick slur slide.

Quick is a great goalie at times, he's not Gibson, or Holtby, or Bob, or Vasy.

Why don't we see how Barrie plays this year before giving him eight? And if Dubas pays Jake (who I watched for years here in LA and always appreciated) $6.3MM, that would be the last straw.

Your post doesn't take into account the player we might get for Andersen.

Not now -- agreed. But he was one of the three best goalies in the league when he won his two Cups.

Binnington is not an elite goalie but his play was elite, watch the highlights of game 7 of the cup final again, the story is way different if not for a handful of ten-bell saves

Highlights don't tell the whole story, that's your issue here

I would want draft picks and D prospects that need another year or two to develop in the minor league. We can't put anyone valuable on our books until years later. Especially if we happen to pick up a good rookie goaltender.

Look, if there is one GM who can identify talent we've never heard of it's Dubas. The economics, in my opinion, strongly indicate he will have to go. There is no way to afford his next contract and we can't afford to rent him to ourselves next year. We need more young assets that are on affordable ELCs.
