You really want to pay a 32 year old almost 6 million for the next 6 years???
Oshie was on pace for 30 goals last year, but missed a dozen games with three different bumps and bruises, and settled for 25. He's hit 25 goals in three of the last four years, and 45 points in his last six, with a high of 60.
His salary is below cap hit already, and falling, mostly, year by year. By the time he's Pavelski's age, it averages 4.5M per year, for the last three years, so either he stays around as a great deal, or he's easy to trade to a team trying to stay above the floor.

Cogliano on the 2nd line, Hintz on the 4th line... this dude knows a lot about hockey. Trade doesn't even make sense for either team. WSH is gonna be in cap crunch next year with Backstrom/Holtby, bringing on two expiring contracts is not a good idea
Dallas gets more goal scoring, so that should be a win, whatever line Hintz sticks on. The Caps stop being league-worst at faceoffs, get above average at penalty killing, and get enough Swedish and Czech speakers to build a forward line of each. If they each work well together, and become greater than the sum of their parts, it could make up for Oshie's offense.
I made lines, not a depth chart. Cogs can be a power forward and let a couple of skill guys skate with the puck, and get creative, while he occupies the goalie and one defenseman. I think of Hintz as another skill guy, so I moved him back to spread out the offense. Then I wound up with Hintz and Dellandrea together on line three and it looked like too much n00b in one place. I liked Comeau and Perry to mentor Dellandrea and help him really succeed, and I figured Hintz could take care of himself on line 4 and maybe get some points in on PP2?
Caps fans (like me) are divided on whether the team can afford Holtby. Copley tied for 36th in wins last year with Quick and Ward. Samsonov and Vanecek are good prospects. I'm not worried about it. Letting Janmark walk to move up a prospect clears enough cap space to sign Faksa, medium term. Letting Holtby walk clears much more than enough for Backstrom, even if the cap doesn't increase because of bond markets and stuff.
