Frolík is too old to fit into Detroit's rebuild so there is no way they give up a 3rd for him. Plus Franzen's contract is in it's final year and won't cost Detroit any cap so there is no reason for Detroit to do any of this.

Detroit typically doesn't throw their young kids into situations. Frolik could be a mentor and shelter letting the young kids play weaker competition and gain better confidence before moving up the line-up. Detroit could then flip Frolik at the deadline when teams will have more cap and get a minimum 2nd for him. Lately, lesser players than Frolik who can't play up and down the lineup have gotten more than a 2nd at the deadline.

First Detroit isn't go to spend assets for a player who doesn't directly help them get back to being a contender. Second look a Detroit's roster I'm assuming you haven't because if you had you wouldn't have used mentoring to support your theory. Detroit already has 5 forwards overpaid and over 30. I'm sure a deal could be made if Calgary wants to take Neilson or Abdelkader back with them.

Unrealted to the trade being proposed, 2 of Detroits top prospects are Czechs and unlike any of detroits veterans so is Frolik. Just because you are a veteran player that doesnt necessarily make you a mentor, Zadina and Hronek might not have the best english and having a vet there that can teach them and help them adjust makes a lot of sense.

Detroit isn't giving up a 3rd round pick and wasting a roster spot for a translator.

I like how you just chose to ignore the part where i said it was unrelated to the proposed trade. IDGAF about that, Detroit obviously declines. Nevertheless Frolik would be a fantastic mentor for them, it's not just a translator thing its a comfort thing.

Green and Neilson are have were praised all last season for mentoring the young kids. If they really needed a guy to speak Cezch they would've offered Vanek more money to stay. You might be right about him being a good mentor but a 3rd rd pick for a team still rebuilding is a lot to give up for one year of Frolik. When you get down to it it's just a cap dump. Since Franzen isn't going to cost the Wings any cap, taking his contract doesn't help or hurt the Wings. If your trying to shed Frolik's cap hit it would look more like this Frolik and a 2nd to Detroit and a 7th rd pick going to Calgary.

Again, I never said i agree with the trade, IMO they should pick him up next year when hes a FA, there are teams that will be looking for Froliks skill set that can afford him, Detroit is not one of them right now

My bad, I thought you were trying to justify the trade. I agree, Detroit declines because it make absolutely no sense
