The Ideal Brock Contract

Created by: Tmclean64
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2019
Published: Sep. 15, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Theres a few reasons why 3 years is the sweet spot.

5.75×5.75x8 Structure

1. For the team, on the short term they get Brock in at a decent value while theyre in a bit of a cap crunch with the recapture penalty and a couple bad contracts. Long term Brock stays an RFA at the end of the deal for 2 more years. They can then sign him to a long term deal or another 1 year show me deal.

2. For Boeser. It allows him to get paid some money on a bridge then be guarenteed at least 8M on his next deal in 3 years which the Canucks can afford with Eriksson, Roussel, Beagle and the recapture penalty coming off the books (15M). This would line Brock up for a nice long term contract with the team.

3. The cap is expected to go up after the expansion draft. This allows Boeser to recieve more money for the cap hit % he signs to, this would especially be beneficial to him on a long term deal.

This Deal would take care of both sides in the short and long term.

I'd prefer to just go 8 years honestly. At most it would cost an extra 1 million per year cap hit, but it would save us money down the line when we are (hopefully) actually good. Also we don't have to worry about re-signing Boeser right after re-signing Pettersson and Hughes.

Something like 7.65 x 8 would be great in my books.

It sure would look great if they can swing it, but that doesn't look like middle ground to me from Brocks perspective. Im sure this is whats holding up the deal, he knows if he waits he can get a bigger long term deal in a few years so he wont sign the long term deals he is being offered. Because of that he is being low balled on the bridge deal as the Canucks know its what he wants. Whatever the case I hope Benning wins lol.

I know they play different positions, but he and mcavoy were in a similar position. I think most would consider McAvoy the most valuable player, although stats seem to drive the minds of many. I think the same contract makes sense.

I really like this contract and line of thinking! I could see both sides willing to go down this road, although it does present some risks to both sides.

With Marner's contract it is hard to think that Brock would be willing to sign for anything under 9.5 or 10 long term IMO. I cant imagine Brock's team believing that Marner is $3mil - $4mil per year more valuable than he is, so why would they sign a long term on those dollars?

Ended up being the term I was imagining for those reasons. Yeah exactly, Boeser wants the chance to earn more money on a long term deal. Love the bridge deal, I thought for sure it would at least start with a 6M avg
