The speculation is that the cap will be frozen at 81.5m next season to help with escrow.

Goodbye Barrie for sure then and likely Muzzin as well. Although with Sandin and Liljegren coming up the pipeline the Leafs should still be in pretty good shape.

its going to hurt toronto but will also hurt teams with rfa's up next sesaon with minimal cap space.

Can someone explain to me in like two sentences what escrow is related to the NHL. Am seeing a lot about it these days.

The NHL and NHLPA withhold a percentage of player salaries, or escrow, during the season as a mechanism to ensure teams and players achieve a 50-50 split of hockey related revenue, per the rules set in the CBA. ... The amount of the escrow is simply a function of how high the cap is. Higher the cap, higher the escrow.
