You worry too much about waivers, even if unclaimed they go to the Marlies with no cap implications. If Honda a regular NHLer, why do the Leafs get him so cheap? There is still not cap friendly as Dermot and especially Hyman comes back and ups the cap.

He is 3rd pair, have you seen Dallas's D?
They have 8 D men without Honka on the roster, and they are tight on cap, like 900k.

I have not seen enough of Honka to know he's NHL ready so can't really say he's a true upgrade over the 3 waiver guys right now.
Maybe Ceci and Schmaltz show better on this roster than their previous teams.

I totally view Honka as better than Schmaltz.
According to some Blues fans he is AHL player.

Ceci will play with Rielly all year IMO.

Wonder if any Dallas fans can shed light in Honka?

    Nah. We want Tavares.

I kid. Personally, I like Honka and think he'd thrive if he ever got the chance to play next to someone like Heiskanen, but alas my dreams will remain unfulfilled. The trade is even in value. That's about as good as Dallas can expect to get for him. I'd take the deal, and cry myself to sleep

By the way, thank you for not trading us Ceci. Seems like every Leafs fan and their mother thinks that Dallas would want Ceci in a Honka trade.

Ceci will stay the year at least, small chance he proves he is not what he showed in Ottawa and is extended but I doubt it.

He will have suitors as UFA.

Okay so you are a fan of Honka...but is good enough to be regular NHL'er as a 3rd pairing D??

Yes. Absolutely. Go take a look at his possession numbers and his ability to drive a play:

    https://public.tableau.com/profile/christopher.turtoro#!/vizhome/2-yearA3ZPlayerComps/ComparisonDashboard

He’s absolutely a top-6 defenseman right now, and he has the makings of a player that could turn into a legitimate puck-moving, play-driving, 2RD

He still can be a number 4 dman at best imo and likely will be with a change of scenery and more ice time. His value is at an all time low with his trade request and lack of ice time. I think a fair trade is a 3rd round pick, a 4th + 7th, or a 3rd line winger. I’m a huge fan of Trevor Moore. In my eyes he’s a solid 3rd-4th line guy with lots of speed. I could be wrong cause I’ve only seen him play a a bit here and there. Would a Moore/Honka trade be fair? Or does Moore have some top 6 potential?

Moore for Honda might be a fair trade indeed. Don't think he is top 6 guy, just don't believe he has the "hands" to be a goal scorer. But his speed and hustle is excellent . His creativity is good but he's not a finisher.

I would def do Honka for Moore 1 for 1. Curious to see how Leafs fans would react

I think Moore is top9 FW, has top6 potential.
Not interested in moving him unless its vast overpay

I'd take it. Honka for third.

Someone said Honka for Moore in this comment section. I'd absolutely take it.

Honka is good, but he doesn't seem to fit in Dallas.

Personally I wouldn’t do it. But I’m probably being biased. I really like Moore. That and @oldnyifan would kill me if I tried to trade Moore to a team that isn’t in Cali. Honka would be an alright add but leafs real need is a number 1 rhd that is defensively sturdy. Think we have a lot of guys that could fill his role next year.
