Not bad at all. Bruins probably wanted more term while the player likely wanted more $. Seems like decent middle ground.

Excellent deal, not only a short term bridge to keep this championship team/window together and open. But it staggers when they need to sign mcavoy and carlo again. krecjis cap comes off the books in 2 years as does backes. perfect time to resign/extend 2 premier young dmen.

I like this deal for Carlo. I am not at all as sold on him as McAvoy, so I think getting to evaluate him for a couple of extra years is in Boston's best interests. Boston's cap picture is also less complicated when Backes and Krejci come off the books. Carlo pretty much had to sign for whatever cap space was left, he didn't have near the same leverage that other RFAs had this summer. While the bigger names are getting bigger pieces of the cap then they used to, the secondary guys have been signing deals that are more in line with previous deals, so signing a two year deal for whatever was left over seems like the only play here.

$7.75 million in cap space between McAvoy and Carlo...that is beyond a steal for the Bruins.

I wonder what Carlo was asking for term because I would have been all over a 6-8 year deal for him at an AAV that could be great in a few years. Nevertheless this is a decent contract and Carlo betting on himself. Sucks for the B's that they'll have to pay more for both Mc and Carlo now but I'm not complaining. Sticking Out Tongue

I guess, but I was more thinking that you'd want to have Carlo locked in so that it is easier to pay McAvoy and build the right side of the core in 3 years time.

Fair enough, although I feel like that actually makes more sense to go long (Bergeron will likely play out his career like jumbo Joe in sj)

Great contract for a defensive middle pairing guy. Allows the Bruins to add while their expensive veterans are still on the books, and when they come off they'll have the room to extend Carlo & McAvoy. I'm guessing it was the player who pushed for the short term though betting that there's room offensively for his game to grow.

Unpopular opinion here, but I like Carlo more than McAvoy. While McAvoy is more skilled all around, Carlo is a very good sound defenseman and in today's age of speed and skill, you need the highly skilled defensive guys back there. McAvoy is a big risk taker and that gets him in trouble often. I like both of them, but Carlo is just heating up.
