Dermott and Hyman start season on LTIR. meaning that they would have literally place for 23 man roster.

There are cap issues. Fortunately it's not quite as bad as this as Dermott/Hyman will either be on LTIR or in the line up and then one player in the lineup will be in the AHL.

With them in the line up and minus say Shore and Marincin they would have 1.45 mil less against the cap and "only" be over by about 1.4 million

With them out of the line up and on LTIR they would be in the positive

If by issues you mean they are right up against it, then yes. They will not be carrying a roster that size though so it is manageable. It isn't ideal by any means but I would expect a 20 or 21 man roster when all is said and done. Guys much smarter than all of us get paid a lot of money to manage this very issue. They wouldn't have done what they did if it wasn't going to work. It will be tight though, I'll give you that.

To start the season day 1 Leafs will carry a 21 man roster. You have to have at least 20 man roster and no more than 23 man roster. Cap hit will right around 81.5 million with jockeying of players, between big club and Marlies.

After roster is submitted and verified they will put Dermott and Hyman on LTIR. They will get over 3 million in cap relief, and can bring up 2 to 3 players to fill in roster.

Once Dermott and espicillay Hyman come back is where the trouble will begin.

But to answer your question, Day 1 they will have a 21 man roster. After that it will be between 21 and 23 with 2 players on LTIR set to return during the season.

Agree with much you said. The only thing" Guys much smarter than all of us get paid a lot of money to manage this very issue." I wish those smart guys had to negotiation the big 3 RFA contracts. Gotta think they could have done better especially when the only leverage had was to withhold their services and not get paid anywhere near NHL money.
