Is that the rumor or just speculating on his leave of absence?

Do the Jets enter a rebuild (on the fly) if he does? Practically no D left

You’d have to think so, since they definitely aren’t contenders.

Quite frankly I don't think they're a contender even with Byfuglien. Just zero depth to their Defense.... They could try to add someone (like Risto) but that's a major gamble if they give up good assets and it doesn't work out.

The ‘Canes can build two 6-man defensive squads that would be better than what the Jets can ice. Even if it’s not Faulk, Jets have to be on the phone with them.

TVR, Fleury, McKeown, Forsling, etc, etc

If Byfuglien retires, id re-sign Connor and Laine to long term deals and trade Wheeler for a young defenceman or defensive prospect and a 1st rounder and try to do good in the 2020 draft

Question is if Faulk has them in his 15 team trade list

IMO the Jets aren't contenders anyway. Bad defense, two bad forward contracts, Kulikov who is weak, and 2 meh bubble players in Bourque and Appleton. Retool time.

That’s arguable. Teams have went from being perceived as a non-contender before the season to being 100+ point teams (ie CGY, NYI).

I don’t think they’ll trade Wheeler, he’s just too big a part of the team (as an intangible). I’d think they’d surely try to trade Laine for a defenseman.
