That’s way more than he would have ever hoped for. That deal takes him directly to UFA without buying out any UFA years. He and his agent do cartwheels

Point value will not be reflected by the AAV of his contract, because the AAV will be lower than that.

I know it, you know it and Brayden Point knows it.

Assuming your right and assuming Marner's deal is at least a little bit of a comparable AAV for a 6 year deal, how much would Point expect to get if he got a 3,4,5 or 6 year deals in your mind?

If there is a silver lining with Braydon Point, it's that unlike the 2 other big-time RFA Rantanen and Laine, and mind you, Point is not European like them, Point is currently in Tampa Bay.

You are close. 4 years at 8.4 (Aho money with less term) and he still is a RFA. Win win, pays Point and keeps them under the cap.

I don't see a 4, 5 or 6 years deal possible. 4 years? Walk Point direct to UFA. Nope. 5 or 6? Tampa sould have to use all its cap space left, having then absolutely not enough money to work something out for 2020 RFAs.
The 3 years bridge deal is the only solution for the Bolts, and would accomodate Point too as he gets to negotiate a new deal in three years when the new TV deal comes in place (rumored to be 8 times bigger than the current one --> $$$ ).

For the 3 years bridge deal, my guess is Point and BriseBois will settle for around 6.5-6.7M AAV, especially considering that the last standing offer of mid september was 5.7M AAV for 3 years.

three year bridge may end up happening because by then tampa's current clutter of contracts will become more palpable and there will likely be more cap space to extend and increase.

Absolutely. In three years Johnson/Palat/Killorn will all be gone + Gourde's NTC will become modified. Point will then get one hell of a payday.

But assuming Tampa had the space, I mean? I'm trying to determine what the arch of his potential contracts would be if given the options. If 3 years is 6.5, what is 4,5,6 years then? Surely Points agent would want to at least negotiate what a contract longer than 3 years is being offered would look like. Even if Tampa doesn't have the cap space for it.

I don't see BriseBois doing any 4 or 6 years contracts as Yzerman worked only on 2, 3, 5, 7 or 8 years deals with prospects during their career in Tampa. But I'd say a 7.75M for 5 years or a 9M for 8 years could be the other offers if there was the cap IMO.

Hmm Interesting. Not sure why 6 years aren't offered but 5 years are......

If he signs for four, he’s a UFA when it expires.
