Awesome! Considering none of the other RFAs took 8 years, this is huge to buy that many UFA years. 8 mill for 8 years is very good, I was expecting a 7 years 9 mill at least

Considering at least 1 team would've offersheeted him 5 years at 8.4 mill, this is a steal for 8 years

This is going to be a steal in 3 years. I can’t believe he signed for 8 years.

Absolutely. Marc Bergevin would have been all over it. Avoids dumpster fire negotiations and shows Chabot wants to be there,

This deal screws, or rather, will screw a lot of teams.

It kinda depends. Chabot is better than Provorov, Werenski and many of these RFAs. He also signed 8 years and not 6 so its huge to buy 2 extra UFA years. In terms of guys like Heiskanen and Dahlin if they keep progressing and the cap keeps going up, theyre going to be worth 10 mill in 2 years on a long term contract. But 8 mill for Chabot is a steal. He had 55pts in 70 games and was on pace for 65-70 if he didn't get injured

Well for example, Tyson Barrie's one-time ridiculous "demands" of $8 million AAV that was once reported, is no longer too far fetched. Also, not a chance Morgan Rielly gets under Chabot's AAV on his next deal. There will be a number of defenseman around the league in similar positions. Seth Jones next contract, for example, will be monsterous, and this contract doesn't help the Blue Jackets negotiate a big ask. I would say Werenski, to this point, has been as good as Chabot, if not better, based solely on the amount of data we have for each player.

How do you figure? The kid just had a monster season and looks like an absolute stud. I'd be thrilled if I was a sens fan.

Have you not been paying attention? High value young players are going to get paid. They want their money for when they are contributing the most not after there best years. Hall next year may not get a huge contract. Barrie won't either, or at least shouldn't. Giving term to a guy who will very soon be leaving his 20's is stupid. Spezza declined, so did Perry, Getzlaf is declining, Seabrook etc. Giving a young guy who is already great, big money over the time frame where they peak, is a fine plan.

Very smart move. The sens aren’t in a cap crunch, so the benefits of a 2-3 year bridge really just aren’t existent. 8x8 should be a steal.

55pts in 70 games in his first full year. Was at a pt per game before his injury and it took time for him to adjust when he came back. The guy was gonna get 70+ points. Hes really really good and takes over the ice.
