Love how this has no votes.

For real though Nic has looked fantastic in the little bit we have seen of him. Looking forward to seeing him in a Leaf jersey full time in a few years.

Not like they desperately needed the contract slot. No reason not to do it now.

Simple question: umm, HOW can the Leafs keep singing players being $15mm over the cap and the season starting in 2 weeks? As a Rangers fan, I was nervous about our cap situation then I see this and my jaw in on the floor. How is Dubas gonna get under $81.5mm by Oct?!?

Horton and Clarkson will be on LTIR which frees up 10.55m , not exactly sure but Hyman could also be placed on LTIR which would get them right around the cap. They may need to send a guy or two to the AHL to get under.

Seriously..... thats what is bothering you?
Ever hear of the SLIDE? yeah his contract doesn't count until he
I believe he plays 10gp
or
turns 20 years old. until then his contract is a slide and does not count.

Excellent. He could be a player in a couple of years to be sure. Until then this doesn’t count to the 50 player contract limit so literally NO downside. Who’s voting “no”?

He doesn't have to be. Once LTIR is activated (Leafs can use LTIR for Horton and Clarkson before the season begins), he can be up to $13.6M above the cap. Once everyone is healthy it's only $10.55M. But the Leafs have an abundance of $700k-$775K contracts that can be buried fully in the minors. Their current cap hit includes LTIR players and a 23 man roster.

So to start the season they can be as much as $13.6M over the cap, which is right about where they are after getting down to a 22 or 23 man roster (depending on who gets demoted). Once their line up is fully healthy, expect them to demote up to 5 additional players (2 to make room for Hyman and Dermott, and 3 just to create cap space), which will put them below the $92.05M ceiling they actually need to be under.

Rather sign him than wait. But really, October 2022 would the earliest I would think he is a Leaf. He'll be 21 years 1 month old at that time.

Robertson goes to juniors. This does not affect the salary cap at all.

What do you mean?

He's young enough for his contract to slide 2 years:

- So it will end up being $863,000 x 5 years
- And it won't count towards the 50 while he's in junior.
