Description
With Keller and Chabot signing megadeals a year out from being RFAs, I begin to wonder who could follow their lead. Barzal has not expressed an urgency to get a deal done, but you never know where negotiations are really at.

What do you guys think he’ll get next summer? Do you think we could see a deal get done before July 1st, 2020?

I think he's waiting to cash in after this season.
He's betting on himself to put up 80+ points in his contract year

I think $6x6 is prob more reasonable for Pulock. Takes him right to age 30, where he should be able have one more massive contract.

Barzal said "At the end, if the term and money is there and it's right for both sides, then something will get done midseason or whenever" and "If there was something right tomorrow for both sides, we'd get it done, but I just don't think either side is in a rush right now"

I think it's just a matter of when the deal gets done. I'd go for the longest term we can reasonably afford

I'm really loving these three-year deals that RFAs are signing with high QOs. I think it's genius and I'd love to see Barzal sign something like that. We'll see what Tkachuk, Rantanen, and Point end up getting, but I think Barzal would sign a three-year, $6.875M/year deal with a QO of over $10M.

He won't make that much. I love Pulock, but he's not as good as Trouba and he's different than Chabot. I think he'll sign an eight-year deal for $6M/year.

The tricky one is Devon Toews. I don't want to sign him to a short term deal since he'll become a UFA in two years. I'd sign him to a six-year deal at $5M/year if he has another awesome year next year.

I agree with the $8 million suggestion. I think he’s on that level (or could be by the time we know exactly what he is) and I don’t think GMs will be giving out 8 year deals to 30 year old defensemen six years from now unless he’s like a yearly Norris contender, My guess is probably $7-$7.5 million, if he has a huge year, slightly less if he regresses

Barzal will likely eclipse 80 pts this season and if that’s the case, he’ll want 11+ on a long term deal and no less than 8.5 on a bridge deal

Pulock is better defensively than Trouba, but not offensively - on an 8 year term pulock gets 7.5, but on a 6 year term I could see him getting around 6.5-6.75

You could've made the same argument for Boeser just this year and look what he took. Is Barzal really going to make almost $3M/year more on the same term contract as Boeser? I think $7M on a three-year deal with a high QO is more than fair.

I'd argue Pulock is better offensively and not as good defensively as Trouba. And that doesn't really make sense since Pulock will be buying into UFA years. He'll get a lower cap on a long term deal and a higher cap on a shorter term.

Boeser has never produced at more than a 72 point pace , he’s actually scored at a 3rd line rate 5 v 5 (he’s an elite PP producer ) . Barzal plays a more valuable position , is better defensively , and if he puts up 80 pts , he is worth significantly more than boeser. Arthur staple predicted that he will get 11 x 6 , just to give you an idea what barzal and his camp will be looking for.

Pulock is better defensively, that wasn’t my opinion. Just go look at evolving hockey website and you’ll see the facts. IMO pulock will sign for 6.5 x 6, taking him to age 30 and then he’ll sign a new deal for 6-7 years at 7-9 AAV depending on how much he improves during his prime years. An 8 year deal takes him to his age 32 season and he won’t have as much leverage for a good contract.

Staple predicted that Barzal contract before Werenski, Boeser, and McAvoy signed their contracts with the fourth year QO.

I'll happily take Pulock at that 6-year contract.

A better comparable to barzal is rantenen, who apparently wants 9.5 AAV on a bridge deal. Assuming he takes 9 mill with an 11 mill QO, barzal won’t take much less than that. Listen I hope barzal signs for 9 x 8, but that will never happen.
