Which one gets the deal done today

Description
So as we get closer to opening day, mikkonwants to get back to the team, Joe wants him back on the team, which would you choose if you're mikko?

Secure long term 80 million over 8 years playing with MacKinnon top line on a team that that's going to be competitive for the next few years

2 year bridge 15 million with 5.5 year 1, 9.5 year 2, play with mack on the top line possibly being able to add someone for a deep run because of cap room. And renegotiating a big deal that buys up more UFA years if play can continue.

Personally I'd rather see him sit out a few months than ruin the future with a bad contract, realizing they probably arent a playoff team without him

I don’t see the avs signing him to a 2 year deal. That summer would then consist of mikko, gabe and makar. That would be a crazy expensive summer, and you would be in the same position with Mikko as you are now. Idk how this is going to get settled, but I hope they get at least 6 years out of him. And it’s not like making 10 million more over the span of your career is that big of a deal when you are going to make over 100 million regardless if you sign long or short term now.

If Im the Avs I pay this kid Marner type money. The cap is gonna rise and if you get him on a 6-8 year deal it's gonna be a bargain after the new TV deal is worked out

I don't think NHL GMs are willing to get this creative, but I just made a post where you offer him league max for one year, with the agreement that he signs a long term deal Jan 1st at a more team friendly number.

I know they've both said they want long term, but if mikko is making 10 or 11 for a deal that buys one UFA year , what happens when landy, makar, and grubauer want that much?? Then MacKinnon probably gets 13-14 aav, unless the cap ceiling takes a huge jump hes effectively saying goodbye to teammates

I'm okay with going to 10ish if it's an 8 year deal but if its six I'm closer to 9.25ish... which is a draistil tarasenko comparable

Well I think at this point you are planning on giving mackinnon something close to 15 mil, assuming the cap keeps increasing. He’s a top 2 or 3 player in the league. Landy is gonna get 7/8 mil a year and we’ll have to see about Grubauer, he’s still a wildcard. None of those guys are going to be making what mikko is going to make, except for mackinnon obviously.

BSN said Avs tried to extend Mikko last summer but he declined, preferring to bet on himself. With the CBA extension, Mikko can take a shorter term deal now in hopes of still maxing money later. We know the Avs dont like $10.9M on a long term deal. So the $9.5M for 2yrs will prob get it done today. IMO the Avs dnot do that RN. I think Mikko is gonna miss some time before both sides come together again. My prediction is the Avs are .500 after a few wks; not terrible but lacking. Mikko isn't getting paid. They do a 1 or 2 yr deal at $8.5M & this season is salvaged.

And then Dater just put $9.5M out there as the magic number for a short term deal. If Sakic were smart, he'd go to $10.5M for as many years as he can get
