Just pile up the points this season Tony. Then it's pay time, with Rangers or some other team, and it won't be for 3mil, it will be much higher!

As a Jets fan I don't understand how Pionk can get 3M a season and DeAngelo gets 925k,,,

Finally as he had zero leverage. This take a ton of pressure off Fox and if TonyD plays well, he could either get a nice extension or get some solid trade value at the deadline. Win win for the Rangers

I'm shocked. Should of gotten more. At least he can go to arbitration next summer and get paid and not miss training camp.

I have to admit, even with his complete lack of leverage and the Rangers almost complete lack of cap space... I was expecting this to be higher (and some moves to be required to get compliant before opening night).

If he can keep up his play AND grow out of the 'attitude' issues that saw him benched a whole lot last season, I can see a decent chunk of the cap that opens up next season going his way.

He's probably got a handshake deal he's going to sign on Jan 1st. Similar to Kevin "1Mil" Lebanc.

Great deal as the Rangers get a middle pairing defender for well under market value this year. I expect there is already another nice contract for him in place with the Rangers that will be announced in the New Year, otherwise he should have looked for and signed an offer sheet. I kept expecting Anaheim would have offered him much more than 925k to play for them next season.

Maybe with some other team... rangers will be cap strapped again next year. This is a crazy good deal.

Where do you see a "decent chunk" of cap space opening up next season?

I see a bunch of free agents that will probably command modest raises (and a couple to might command large raises).

I also see Shattenkirk's buyout cost increasing from $1,500,000 this year to $6,100,000 next year (a $4,600,000 increase).

Deangelo took a discount for his team. Something current RFAs should be considering ..

Fast - 1.85
Strome - 3.1
Namestnikov- 4

It’s abt 9m coming off. Girardis buyout decreases by 2m so you are at 11. Take into consideration cap escalators and you’ll be at 13 minimally. So shatty takes up an additional 4m, so you’re back down to 9m.

9m if they wanna extend Kreider and deangelo. Fast and strome are most likely gone, fast being the more likely gone

Shattenkirk will take up just over 6 million next year actually...yikes.

he's taking up 2m currently.. so it's a 4m additional as i said

edt: if you want to get real specific, he takes up 1.483m this year, and will get a 4.6m increase to 6.083m next year. Girardi takes up 3.611m this year, and goes down by 2.5m to 1.111m next year.

Fast= 1.85m
Strome = 3.1m
Namestnikov=4m
Cap increase=2m (minimally)
Girardi Decrease: 2.5m
Total Decrease: 13.45m
Total increase: 4.6m

Net gain: 8.85m

If they don't resign kreider add another 4.625 to that for a total cap free of 13.475 to resign DeAngelo... unless he turns into Erik Karlsson, Drew Doughty, etc.. i think we're good
