edt: if you want to get real specific, he takes up 1.483m this year, and will get a 4.6m increase to 6.083m next year. Girardi takes up 3.611m this year, and goes down by 2.5m to 1.111m next year.

Fast= 1.85m
Strome = 3.1m
Namestnikov=4m
Cap increase=2m (minimally)
Girardi Decrease: 2.5m
Total Decrease: 13.45m
Total increase: 4.6m

Net gain: 8.85m

If they don't resign kreider add another 4.625 to that for a total cap free of 13.475 to resign DeAngelo... unless he turns into Erik Karlsson, Drew Doughty, etc.. i think we're good

the fact you did the math is amazing

Good job holding out their buddy

He really really likes playing for the Rangers and management leveraged that. He'll always be worth more than his salary as long as he's a Ranger.

Shattenkirk will take up just over 6 million next year actually...yikes.

A ridiculous 9% of their total cap hit next season will be spent on buyouts...OUCH!!! That's gotta be a record.

Fast - 1.85
Strome - 3.1
Namestnikov- 4

It’s abt 9m coming off. Girardis buyout decreases by 2m so you are at 11. Take into consideration cap escalators and you’ll be at 13 minimally. So shatty takes up an additional 4m, so you’re back down to 9m.

9m if they wanna extend Kreider and deangelo. Fast and strome are most likely gone, fast being the more likely gone

Fast + Strome + Namestikov have to be replaced by 3 new players ... which will cost around $3,000,000 at the absolute least (replacing them all with ELC's).

So the $9,000,000 is technically $6,000,000 in your scenario ... but I'm not sure it's a good idea to replace 3 middle 6 forwards with ELC's or bubble NHL players.

So I would guess the $6,000,000 is closer to $4,000,000 (they sign two $2,000,000 +/- players and promote one ELC).

He's missing replacement players though.

You can't just subtract the full salaries of 3 roster players (Fast + Strome + Namestikov) without replacing them with 3 new roster players.

Panarin-zibanejad-Kakko
Kreider (+2.5)-chytil-Buchnevich
Lemieux-andersson-kravtsov
Henriksson-Howden-Barron/Hughes/mckegg/Elmer/Nieves

Pretty simple actually.

Yeah ... I guess it would be pretty simple if all of the following ends up true:

Kakko is a good 1st line winger next year
Chytil is a good 2nd line center next year
Andersson is a good 3rd line center next year
Kravstov is a good 3rd line winger next year
Lemieux is a good 3rd line winger next year

Otherwise ... you have a bad team pushed right up against the cap (with like 6 players expecting big raises in 2021-22).

So maybe it's a good idea to wait and see what's up.

I understand the pressure to put a highly competitive team on the ice in NYC, but you have to wonder a little bit if accelerating the rebuild was a smart long term strategy. Trouba better be an absolute stud at $8M AAV and they still lack any kind of Center depth to be a playoff team. I think they're gonna struggle a little more this season than their fans are anticipating. And like you said, they're gonna be right up against the cap next season, even while subtracting a handful of middle six players.
