Description

Edmonton need a winger, Toronto needs cap space. why not. Spezza will be more effective playing with better wingers I think third line would be strong and but up lots of points.

Dermott could play LD but I think he should play RD as 1st pair D.

With Hyman out for first part of season Toronto can see if they actually need him or not

I don't think Hyman is worth a 2nd you could do a 3rd and 5th but Toronto can afford to get a player back unless its towards the AHL. Getting a guy like Raphael Lavoie would be a good add but don't think Edmonton will trade him yet. maybe 4th and Lavoie but not likely.

If a contender has Hyman on their roster, I doubt many of them part ways with him for less than a 2nd. I'm aruge many wouldn't even consider just a 2nd depending on their depth at LW. He provides 40 points for $2.25M which is pretty good value.

I'd do it. He is easily replaced by moore on 3rd line which is as high as hyman should play and saves $1M+ on cap that would be better spent elsewhere.

Hyman makes just 2.25m. Not all that cap space is saved by trading him. 20 goal scorer who doesn't play the PP and plays PK...excellent value at his cap.

An even bigger issue is that the Leafs lost two penalty killers in the off-season (Brown and Zaitsev) and losing Hyman would hurt in ways people have not thought of.

Better off trading others instead of yet another penalty killer...not to mention the other things he does out there.

Well Zaitsev to Ceci was a lateral move in terms of PKers, JT has a lot of PK experience but i do agree that the leafs have killed their PK depth, ive been saying it for a while now. Right now of PK skilled forwards they have Marner, JT, Kapanen, Hyman and Shore. Still a little sketchy to give up 1 of them without another in return.

Yes, I'd rather keep Hyman rather than replace him with a replacement-level player and a guy who wouldn't be playing.
