Just putting off the problem for 3 years. Actually makes it worse if you lose him to UFA. This is precisely what Treliving doesn't want.

Yes, but the clock is ticking and something's gotta give, the Flames can't handle Tkachuk's deal being prorated if he signs after the season starts. A deal like this while risky gives you the best chance possible to win this season as you can keep the team intact
