Description

With Tkachuk unsigned and Calgary only having roughly 6.3 million in cap space, the Flames make a deal that will add 3,150,400 in space while acquiring a decent 3rd pair defenseman, a pick, and a prospect.

The trade also allows NJ to send Smith down to the minors (i believe, could be wrong) for more seasoning as he has not looked great in preseason so far.

All of this, of course, is pending Brodie waives his modified NTC.

I think I'd take this as a Flames fan as long as we knew for sure that Tkachuk would be signing right after the deal was completed.

Per Pronman's farm system rankings, he rated Maltsev as a guy who "Has a chance". I will say he had an impressive goal the other night, but with the Devils deep down the middle for the forseeable future, he is served best as a trade asset in my opinion.
