Why doesn't Toronto just wait until he becomes a FA and not give up anything?

It is utterly outrageous to even consider the notion that St. Louis would do this.

But hes gonna be 30 years old and is a UFA. Id be shocked if he gets traded for even that

They're already a cup contender, although not a favourite. Dubas is smarter than this. Sign Pietrangelo to 10 million x 5 years, trade Hyman to free up space and have a top 6 of

Teams win the cup and trade arguably their best player all the time right?

Theyre not a cup contender. Theyre a first round exit to Boston team. They cant compete with Boston and their D of McAvoy, Carlo, Chara and Krug. Boston has better goaltending. Also, you can make an argument that Boston has as good of an offense as them or even better. I can probably make all the same cases for Florida now

They have Faulk now, if I had to choose between Parayko and Pietrangelo, its a super easy decision to keep Parayko in order to compete.

Dude, come on. This is just complete and utter insanity. Right now, Petro is their best d man, and very arguably their best player. Their window is right now. It’s just a non starter.

So you re-sign Pietrangelo to 8-9 mill to get to a total of 20 mill invested in RHDs?

Maybe. Maybe not. You know what contending teams never do? Trade their number one d man.

Sure let him walk. Wouldve worked great with Ottawa and Karlsson right? Maybe St Louis doesn't want to give him 9 mill on a 7-8 year deal but Pietrangelo wants that, what do u do?

Sure you do. Cup contenders let it happen all the time. Every year. You know what they don’t do? Trade them when they are cup contenders. Next topic.

Because Blues are going to sign him a contract they can fit it in, and if they aren't going to they can trade him at Deadline to someone who is contending as well, but I doubt we give him up for less than what this deal looks like. and probably more tbh.
