Way too much! You give Barrie that and Reilly will get 10, not going to happen.

I think a Dermott bridge is extremely likely anyway, most defencemen sign them out of their ELC's and Derms won't have the leverage or stats for something long-term.

Shouldn't we see how Barrie performs as a Leaf? We know is good on the PP, but let's see him up close at even strength. Seven years for a 29 years old....I'm gagging on that.
Another big cap for one guy? Maybe two 4m players is cap better spend.
Barrie and offensive bent is going to get premium dollars. Should the Leafs really outbid everyone? I know it's subjective.

I agree with both takes. $9 million is high but Barrie may actually get that on the open market (if i put $8M i'd get ragged on in the comments saying its too low). They need a number 1 RHD for the future and that could be the cost. Hopefully cap continues to rise over the next three years while the top 9 forwards are already signed and we can pay Reilly without taking a hit. Expansion draft will play a role too so i'm not worried about Reilly and Anderson quite yet.

With Anderson - who knows, maybe Woll and Scott are the tandem of the future.

Barrie can definitely make around that in the FA market, and Rielly will 100% get 10+.

I have always had trouble with the term "top pairing" or "# 1 RHD". etc. Barrie certainly doesn't fit into my definition as top defencemen. Sure he has great stats on the PP. But as 5 on 5 or the PK..is he difference maker? Even the Reilly last year, who had great season, on the PP, and even at even strength, didn't see that much time on the PK. Marner got a large number of points not as a right winger but as the right hand point on the PP. Just saying these fascination with points and slotting players into "numbers ", are so misleading IMO.
