Literally not one part of that description is correct.
Well, he did have, “less,” points, but the proper word is “fewer,”
His AAV is not 4.3 higher. (Hence why it says RFA-3 next to his name)
He is not a UFA at the end of it.

What are you on about?

Oh well come on. The guy just signed is named Matthew, naturally I assumed you were talking about Tkachuk, also mainly because.....drum rolll please

FIVE YEARS ISN’T A BRIDGE.

Rule of thumb, if the player goes from his entry to UFA, it isn’t a bridge, it’s a long term contract.

I didn’t read it right, but Matthews deal is not a bridge in any sense of the word.

Bridge means bridge them to their long term, career defining contract. When you aren’t buying any material UFA years yes it’s absolutely a bridge. What’s incredible is the Leafs gave up control, didn’t get long term, and didn’t get any savings on AAV despite the first two concessions. Worst of all worlds.

I hated mathews deal as soon as he signed. why they didnt go for 8 years is just dumb. Even if they had to pay 12.5 per. They would have mathews throughout his prime. Going to loose him at end of deal.

Tavares > Matthews. Matthews has never had to be the man in Toronto so I’d hardly consider him the #1 center. When It matters ,playoffs, he’s non existent. That being said Matthews is better but he’s so overpaid it’s laughable. He’s maybe worth 9.5m. About 11-11.5% of the salary cap at most

You really don’t. It’s just logic. Would 8 years have been a bridge? A bridge to what? Retirement?

Worse bridge deal ever?

Crosby 17.30% x 5 years
Malkin 15.34% x 5 years
Matthews 14.63% x 5 years

no one called those bridges, and those contracts were just fine.

Are you referring to MATTHEW Tkachuk or Auston MATTHEWS?

Those players were/are both better than Matthews, who has crested 70 pts once. Both players had 2 100+ pt seasons by that time. Both players actually had more assists in a season than Matthews has a career high in points by that time.

Gee, if you don't like the Matthews deal fine, but learn the definition of "bridge" contract. Actually the Flames have the worse bridge deal possible. Flames have QO Tzachuk at 9m. IMO Tzachuk is just going to take that one year deal and be UFA in in the minimum amount of years. Yea he might lose a million or two in his last RFA season, but gaining UFA freedom...for money and destination is reward enough.

I can't stand this false statement about him not performing in the playoffs

He's played 3 playoffs with the Leafs
4 g and 5 pts in 6 gp his first playoffs
1 g and 2 pts in 7 gp in his second playoffs <--played bad as he was shutdown by Bergeron
5 g and 6 pts in 7 GP in his third playoffs

He has played well in 2/3 of his playoffs. He was shutdown by Bergeron in one of them. I'm not arguing that that is inconsequential, but it isn't unique. Bergeron is that damn good.
