The forwards and goaltending are pretty good. The top pair on defense is solid. After that, the bar is lower for guys to step up and fill in. If there's an injury anywhere, at the deadline, they can add a top four defenseman from somewhere, and be okay.

Having Merrill on the 2nd pairing is rough tho... they'll have to make a trade at the deadline to acquire an D with an expiring contract.

I'm not going to fully disagree with you. I thought showed vast improvements last year so I could see them giving him a shot. I think they will use Ego to mentor one of the rookies much the same way that he did with Theodore.
