Jets decline, Kreider and Fast are of little value, not enough quality for Laine.

An unsigned one dimensional player who disappears for months at a time with no defensive game doesn't bring "quality" in a trade

The most important dimension of the game but yeah let's gloss over that. Kreider has yet to even hit the 60 point mark in a season, he's so very overrated, the Rangers can keep him.

so uhh.. what money do the rangers sign Laine for.. cause if he'll sign for less than 7m (remember we will have to replace the roster spots) i think the jets would keep him. Also, kreider will be asking for 7m anyway, with DeAngelo wanting a decent raise too, so is it worth it to give up a 1st and 2nd for WPG to give two players the same raise you don't want to give Laine?

Any trade for Laine would have to include minimally Chytil, Kreider and Fast along with the 1st round pick, and maybe even DeAngelo... Personally, if WPG is intent on rebuilding at this point (i don't see it) the person I go after is Scheifele as NYR weakest part is the center position.. He's also on a great contract for 5 more seasons.

Perfect! Then we get to keep him, which is what we should do anyways. If we trade him it should be pretty much 1 for 1. Also, we're never trading with the Rangers again, so there's also that.

That's why I added Chytil buddy (for laine that is)... you ain't getting Chytil, Buch, Strome and a 1st for Laine. Hot take-- buch gets within 5 points of laine this year

oh and if you want Kakko, it starts with Scheifele and Vesalainen. Yes that's how good he is.

I forgot that Chytil and DeAngelo are "UFA leftovers" along with a 1st round pick...
"UFA leftovers" is a poor term for one of the better rentals that'll be on the market in kreider (please try and find a pending UFA forward whose team isn't currently projected to make the playoffs).. even if you traded him at the deadline you could get a 1st rounder + or you could resign him (see my comment above again)

Yeah I read your comments, Chytil and Deangelo aren't UFA leftovers but Kreider and Fast are. Yeah I realize Kreider is a good player and may be worth a 1st at the TDL but right now he isn't. UFA's without extensions at this point of the season have very little value and there's a less then zero chance that Kreider would resign with the Jets.

Laine signed so it's a moot point now.
