Description
We're supposed to be harder to play against, but last night was a joke pure and simple. I'm happy Boqvist was sent down. It's nothing against his talent, but he looks like a 19 year old ~175lb kid out there trying to push guys around. I can't even tell you how many times I either saw him hit someone...and them not budge or he gets tapped and he's fallen. This isn't saying anything about his talent. He's going to be a REALLY good hockey player, but it takes time. He's just not mature enough physically to play in the NHL yet.

Nylander can be sent do too for that matter. I know Bowman traded for him, but he's everything he read about and saw in Buffalo. Heck even Eddie O was criticizing his lack of effort to try to get pucks along the boards. It's not to say he hasn't shown poise in other games, but earn it....will ya?!?!

Watching last nights game...I'm almost sorry for Dach to have to be put on this team! That's right...NOT the other way around. Don't teach him these bad habits!

I understand fully that you're not as good as your best game...and you're not as bad as your worst game. I also understand that it's preseason and they're playing with lines. The Nylander, Toews, Caggulia experiment can be over with for the rest of eternity. Debrincat/Strome/Kane line too for that matter. Maybe if you’re down 6 nothing…then roll it out?

Ok, frustration out…soo..what now?

Well, there really wasn't many positives last night. The Saad, Kampf, Kubalik line looks strong. They even went out there as the shutdown pair and played well. I see that line sticking together as the #3 line for the foreseeable future. The second thing I noticed what that I really like Wedin. Where did this guy come from? His play looks like he really wants to do the dirty work to make this team. The Hawks need more of this. Third and last one…I actually thought Strome played a little bit more physical than I’m used to seeing him play. That’s a good sign to me. He’s never been the fastest center…and that’s ok…if you can play a little more physical. I’m not suggesting he was successful last night, but the willingness appeared to be there which I wasn’t able to say last year.

The Hawks play a European team next and I think this is where Dach will get some time. Probably a little less physical of a game just so he can see the speed and there will be protection around him. I can’t imagine he does much more than this though. As mentioned earlier, I’m not a fan of breaking up the Saad/Kampf/Kubalik line, but it’s just 1 game and Stan and Co. want to see Dach play with this team at least once before sending him down.

The Nylander trade was a joke. It IS a joke. He's pretty solid offensively but he's a bum. Lazy as heck

Unfortunately, he's better than Dahlstrom and none of them were good last night. At least he pushed some people off the puck.

It was a preseason game. Crow was horrendous. Remember when we beat the Penguins 10-1? We didn't make the playoffs; they did.

Nylander has had a marginally positive Corsi and xG in all of his outings thus far, despite his linemates being negative. The lack of effort is legitimate criticism, but you're just trying to find a scapegoat. According to that logic, Kane ought to be sent to Rockford then.

I actually think we're more on the same page than have differences. It's just the more detailed items as to what does that marginally positive corsi mean and conclusion on Nylander that are different.

I do remember. It's honestly the EXACT game I was thinking about when I wrote "you're not as good as your best game and not as bad as your worst game" 1st game of the season and Schmaltz was hurt in that game rushing the middle of the ice. Also, I said in the description that it's a preseason game. So we're on the same page with both of these.

You're analysis of Nylander is VERY generous in my personal opinion. That isn't a shot at you! I respect your opinion. I just see his play differently I guess. When you're gifted a spot (not earned) next to Toews and Kane...AND you're ~66% ozones starts....you're going to have more shots for than shots against. You're on the ice with the best players on the team...and sent onto the ice when you have the ability to shoot on net vs the opponent needing to go 200' to shoot... The fact that he's around 50% is NOT a good thing. Get someone else in there. Also, you can't tell me he played well last night. Even Eddie O was on this guy, NO? I get that he has high end talent. I can see that. He did have that 1 good preseason game, but largely invisible. As far as the Kane comparison...If you're as talented as Patrick Kane, then fine. He's not even close. Oh, and we already have a Patrick Kane. Nylander's going to have to play some kind of defense if he wants to be on the same line as Kane. And as we both have admitted...the laziness is a problem...more of a problem than any analytics.

I agree that the Nylander-Toews-Cags line and the Cat-Strome-Kane line shouldn't play together anymore. I think the lines should look like:

Shaw-Toews-Kane
Cat-Strome-Cags
Saad-Dach-Kubalik
Wedin-Carpender-Smith
