I mean montreal are taking oshie contract that will be horrible in maybe 2 years unless something really good come from washington montreal isn’t interesting in a aging forward. Plus montreal give brook. He is the better prospect in that deal. So montreal loose in that trade way more
Then Washington does

Take Brook out and Montreal might listen. I know that you like Oshie, but that contract is a killer. He will be 33 in a couple months and that $5.75M goes until he is 38. Drouin is 24, only 11 months older than Vrana.

Drouin > Oshie (similar point production, but younger, much better contract, heading into prime as opposed to just getting older and slower)
Brook > Johansen (and I like Johansen)
Stephenson is dime a dozen
A 2nd and a 3rd do not come close to bridging the two gaps and 6 more years of Oshie under contract. Six years.

A. Call us when Drouin gets a Selke vote. Oshie's contract is down to an average 4.6M salary at a 5.75M cap hit. If the wheels fall off, trade him to a rebuilding team. But over the last three years, his stats add up to, more or less, Brendan Gallagher, with a Cup ring. Last year he was on pace for 30 goals again. Drouin almost got back to 20. Drouin has spent almost 14 minutes on the penalty kill since joining Montreal. Gallagher is at 35:16 Oshie, with Washington, is at 279:48.

B. Brook tore up junior hockey as a 20 year old playing against mostly 17 and 18 year olds, but he has one point in seven games as a pro. Johansen has 41 points in 119 games in the AHL. He's one year older. But feel free to not swap defensemen, if you're also stocked up on left shots.

Okay, if Washington takes out the picks.

Drouin is 24...

And in danger of losing his spots in the Habs' top six and top power play, and turning back into Burakovsky, who had more even strength goals than Drouin, career, heading into last season, played a year on third line, failed to adapt to a checking role, and got stolen for a 2nd and a 3rd. yeah. He's young. We get it. He's also one dimensional and about to become dead cap if Kotkaniemi, Caufield, Suzuki, and Evans push him to the fourth line.

Six years.

Hey, you're right. I was thinking five, for some reason. And yeah, the cap hit is high. The average remaining cost per season is 600k lower on Oshie than Drouin, and in the first couple years you get just as good a hockey player, but in twice as many ends of the rink.

Drouin's career highs are 27 blocks and 55 hits. Last year Oshie had 55 blocks and 133 hits.

Oshie and Johansen for Drouin? Ouch. Gets Montreal to the playoffs a couple years sooner. Keeps Washington in the playoffs after Ovechkin retires. Win-win. Could have just kept Burakovsky and Johansen, and paid a 2nd to trade Oshie somewhere, I think, but what do I know?

Not nearly as much as you think...

Comparing Drouin to Burakovsky is a joke.

Being able to move Oshie's contract for someone that would outscore him and is a decade younger is worth a prospect and a couple mid picks.

It's funny that you had to fall all the way to blocked shots in order to try to make Oshie look "better" than Drouin.

Blocks.. wow.
