best case scenario for both. gives laine a chunk of cash for his previous efforts and time to prove that he's worth more.

The Point comparable with one less year = better deal for Laine to cash in. Fair signing though, just glad it’s done.

agreed. If he lights it up in the next 2 years he'll have earned his money and term. If thats not with the jets, then they can deal him away for some seriously good package (obvs dont let him go to arbitration)

The best part of this is that Connor was wanting a long term deal but was waiting for Laine...Basically if he signed a 6 year/ 7.33M per year and Laine gets 7.5M on a bridge, he would be pissed....Now his long term deal can go through.

That leaves enough cap space to lock Connor long term. It was the obvious outcome according to Lebrun

This AAV is definitely too high for a 2 years deal. Evolving Wild had a 2 years bridge for Laine at 5M AAV.

I said no but I said for diff reasons:
depending on escrow % he doesn't make 11.3;
if he's truly that good of a goal scorer then he wants more - if not, then contract is only for 2 years;

then why didnt montreal offer at least Aho's contract:

8.454 over 5 years with 91% signing bonus... to make it easier for Tampa / Toronto fans n such: 8 mil 5 years = 40 x 90 % sign bonus... Point takes home 36 mil n it costs Montreal value of 8 mil offer, get my drift? at 15% escrow, Point takes home 39.4.... how much is Point's signing bonus, now do his actual contract using 15% escrow on base salary.

I think he can be a 50 goal man. He just needs to find consistency, and this deal will pay off greatly for him.

Happy with the AAV. 2 years is a good deal for both sides.

There's a lot of comments on Reddit/Twitter right now being like "Jets are screwed in 2 years if he scores 45-50 twice" as if the team will be mad they have to pay a 50 goal scorer tears of joy
