I was more perplexed that OP doesn't think clutch performers like Burakovsky, Kadri, and Calvert are enough to lead this team on a playoff run, but is totally cool with Francouz (2GP, career high) backing up Grubauer (career high 37 games played) all year, when the waiver wire is about to offer Domingue and Jarry, and Florida will only take one.

Does it matter how many hes played(10 playoff games).. how many games has Jack Hughes played? I bet you Jersey doesnt trade Hughes for laine straight up... especially after last year

Hughes will be a generational talent plus the situation of New Jersey would make him the least likely trade candidate. Anyways, this is purely fantasy my view on Laine is that he is the next Ovechkin which is why I perceive his value the way I do. If you don't that's fine, purely an opinion

So you think that the situation in Colorado leaves cale makar expendable?

Not at all. It's more of making a trade that can improve your team's odds of success immediately in the short-term. Kind of like Larsson for Hall (although not to that extent) Jersey traded their best defenseman at the time

Okay but rantanen is better, so you bring in laine and you push all the other guys you brought in down the lineup, and have a huge hole on your right defense. It doesnt make any sense, cale makar is untouchable. Guy makes no money and had a huge impact in the playoffs, which is why Barrie was shipped out.. all offense and no defense doesnt always work, see the leafs teams from the last 2 years

Perhaps, I think the Pens won with no defence for a few years but defense is largely team-based. I'm a toronto guy watching the leafs for years I'd say that's more of a contributor + inexperience. I don't doubt that Rantanen was the better overall player last year, but Laine is a generational scoring talent who put up as many as JTavares and McDavid over the last 3 years (playing on the 2nd line!). Adding him would arguably win more games than Makar would.
