For a guy who is really carried by MacKinnon, this is way too much money.

Seems fair with back to back point per game seasons. Can't see him ever being worth less than $9.25M

I prefer not to answer this poll.

No way to know now. Could go both ways.

Future performances will tell.

MacKinnon's production exploded at the same time as Rantanen's. I don't think that's a coincidence. They boost each other's games a lot.

This is a useless comment. The numbers don't lie that Rantanen is pretty obviously carried by MacKinnon.

Well, Kyle Dubas basically had no choice after Matthews signed his contract.
First of all, he is the youngest of all GM's, and player agents tear him to pieces because of his inexperience in the NHL. Second of all, Toronto has the highest taxes in the NHL with Ottawa, and that takes away from a player's salary.
For example, Marner's contract is 10.893 million per year. That means he receives about 5 million dollars per year. Rantanen, on the other hand, receives about 5.4 million per year after taxes. Point receives about 4.2 million after taxes because Tampa has no state tax.
So yeah, player negociaions are complicated. But there's no need to bash a GM. The NHL should have a salary cap based on taxes, but the NHL will never allow it.

i think the issue might've been dubas also overvalued marner a little too much as well.

i'm not going to lose sleep over what islander and canadiens fans think about the leafs gm though.
