Pens should have just bought him out

Created by: CrossFireX33
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 30, 2019
Published: Sep. 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Paying to get rid of him will probably be more expensive than people think (it took a first to get rid of 1 year of marleau's contract) also not sure if the pens would still be able to buy him out for cap compliance reasons (pretty sure they're different but not sure)

its not that bad of a cap hit for most of the years and 4 years of 3+mill dead cap is hard to sell to just about any team

you aren't selling 4 years, you are selling 2. And it doesn't even have to be 3+, he can be sent down to AHL for 2 million.

2x2 if there is no need for him.
You act like it's an arm and a leg.
You have listened to too many internet trolls.
There are reasons there are multiple teams willing to trade for him. 1st teams have need for defense and it's always in demand. Second is the salary isn't all that bad for the risk.
They swallow 2 years, one way or another. He goes to Seattle, Seattle buys him out at 1 mil a year for 4 years and gets a pick to keep off the other teams players.
It's not rocket science. People make this more than it is.

Still a cap hit that most teams don't need (and there's no guaruntee that Seatle will take him. Also teams need actual defensemen not players who are horrible at defense, unless pittsburgh really makes it worth their while, I see no reason a team would take the cap hit.

Dude I'm not sure what fan base you are from, but go back there. Stay off penguins boards. Your irrationality is unreal.
No "guarantee"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My god, you are too lazy to even use spell check when the word is underlined red!.
And yes there is because that's the deal. Seattle agrees to take the player for the pick. It's what keeps Seattle off the other teams players they would have otherwise chosen.
Furthermore, there are no defense men out there. None, at all. As usual in the NHL, there is always a lack of defense men. Which is why multiple teams are looking for them.
Go ask WPG, or LA, or ANA how many defense men are available right now.

Again your argument relies on Johnson being an nhl capable defenseman (which he is not)
sorry I don't want to take the time to spell check (btw if you have to attack someone personally or how they talk/spell it usually means your argument is flawed and you need extra attacks against them)

Agree. Buyout is also no longer an option until next year anyway.

He hits for less than 4% of the cap. 4%. People are running around like chickens with their heads cut off for less than 4% of the cap.

Marleau's trade deal was that Carolina would buy him out right away. Marleau had no desire to play for Carolina so would only waive if they agreed to buy him out and make him a UFA right away. Toronto was DESPERATE to move Marleau's $6.25M cap hit. Heck, even after that they are still in a grey area cap wise. The Pens are NOT desperate, much less DESPERATE, to move Johnson's contract. It would make things easier, but it is not actually a necessity. Marleau getting dealt was a 100% necessity for Toronto, hence the cost.

The facts speak for themself. Columbus has gotten fairly adept at scouting, drafting, and talent management over the last few years, and they gave up on Jack Johnson for a reason. They could see his decline in the last 2 years of his CBJ contract, and Columbus also has a glut of NHL capable defensemen now (in my opinion, CBJ should and probably will be trading 1 or 2 this upcoming season). But back to JJ,
I really like the guy, and he did have some difficult personal problems in the recent past, but Pittsburgh never should have signed him. Even Adam McQuaid was still out there at the time and was/is unsigned. He would have been a better option. But paying someone to take Jack Johnson off your hands would be too expensive, especially for a Pittsburgh team that really needs draft picks since their core group of players are reaching the peak of their playing career (aging rapidly).
Carrying a $1M+ buyout charge for 8 years is nothing in today's NHL (relative to paying someone to take him), especially for a team like Pittsburgh that has the attendance and the money to absorb it.
Even teams that are desperate for quality D men haven't acted yet, because they know that JJ is more of a liability than an asset on the ice.

People don't realize the Toronto situation is completely different than the Pittsburgh situation.

CBJ gave up on JJ because they have an absolute gold mine in young talent on the team. They are absolutely stacked on defense.
please come back to reality.
