How to Drive McDavid Out of EDM Jurco and Kassian are top 6 wingers

Created by: dlt_hfu2847whsba

Initial Creation Date: Oct. 1, 2019

Description
I'm sorry but this might be the worst top 6 in the league. Supposedly this is the projected lineup for opening night. I love the Oilers and McDavid especially, but how can you be satisfied with this lineup as the best player in the world? It's so frustrating. He's going to leave at the end of his deal having had 0 playoff success thanks to incompetent management, and Oilers ownership will vilify him for it to cover themselves. Ho-Sang, Sprong, Baertschi, Petan all available via waivers today and they couldn't figure out a way to get ANY of them under the roster limit? This is the team that took a chance on Chiasson - and it worked - and they have the best waiver wire selection in years and can't figure it out. Seriously? By the way, this is not me talking smack about the Oilers. I genuinely want them to do well (they're one of my favorite teams) and I'm so frustrated that they can't put together a decent roster whilst having the best player in the world.

Even as a leafs fan I want the Oilers to do well. Not because I like the Oilers but because the alternative is to waste the prime of a generational superstar and deprive us all of fantastic playoff hockey.

Gee, I know folks criticize the Leafs and how they have spent their cap. But geez, the Oilers and some other teams have been so bad for so long, and doesn't look like there is hope is sight.

It blows my mind as well, a lot of teams actually surprised me by not picking up some of the waived players (my Senators included). I can imagine a world where McDavid is flanked by Ho-Sang and Baertschi/Sprong. Unfortunately, it didn't happen - and Holland is this close to pulling a Chiarelli.

Their centre depth is outstanding (though I see one of Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins on the wing with McDavid), their defence is adequate and the goaltenders leave something to be desired but these two put up pretty okay numbers last season. The one issue they have is on the wings, specifically ones to keep up with McDavid or put the puck in the net for or pass to Draisaitl. Holland had a choice of a free young winger and decided "Nah". I doubt I'll ever understand why he didn't nab one of them.

(Edit: Also, the 'worst Top6 in the league'? Ottawa says 'Hello')

I think the unfortunate reality for Edmonton is that they are gonna suck for another 1-2 years. Once the cap goes up, some guys come off the books, and guys like Bouchard, Broberg, and Yamamoto can become every day players, they can add some quality pieces surrounding their core.

Lol, wow that is bad. Man it's frustrating watching them squander Drasaitl and McReallygoodplayer when they didn't have to. I'm sorry you have to watch this unfold, it must be enraging.

Give it a period and a half before McNuggets and Drai are back on the same line. RNH is going to end up being the guy that leaves.

They're actually starting it with

Nygard McDavid Neal
Drai RNH Kassian

Which is likely better then this but I do agree however Holland wasnt overly left with a lot to work out with the fact he got rid of lucic was a plus. Also hes actually developing our talent and other prospects. Us quite a bit of cap space next year. This is defs a transition year an I'm not expecting anything hugely improved till next year

Chiarelli set this team back a few years, hopefully they get out of this while Mcdavid is still a god.

My sentiments exactly. Sadly I'm not sure Holland can do alot right now as Chiarelli really messed this team up and didn't really develop talent while he was in Edmonton.

Chiarelli is the easy guy to point all the blame at but its bigger than him, the whole management group is incompetent....letting him do what he was dong, and at times from reports they made group decisions together that were god awful.

Nothing is going to change in Edmonton...Holland is just more of the same

Chiarelli hired the people that make helped him make those incompetent decisions in the first place, and all final decisions come down to the gm, so it is easy to blame him because hes the most at fault, not 100% but enough. I dont think Holland will magically get them out of this, but it is annoying seeing Mcdavid surrounded by such a poor cast.

I’m not talking about his staff, terrible hockey decisions I put and approved involved guys above him, that’s my point

Ah I thought you meant Chia's front office not Edmontons ownership itself.

Totally agree with this, no reason Holland couldn't have grabbed at least one of these forwards from the waiver wire, a guy like Ho-Sang who yes I know has a personality issue is a low risk pickup with decent upside, if he works out great and if not send him down and don't qualify him, no big deal.

I get that Holland didn't have much to work with but there's no excuse for not taking a flyer on a free player that barely makes more then league minimum.

I honestly don't believe McDavid makes it through his entire contract in EDM. I think he will request a trade in 3-4 years. Chiarelli had no idea how to manage assets, we saw it in Boston with Seguin, here with Yakupov, Eberle, and the Larsson trade. He rushes certain players, but stalls others. I don't understand how Benson isn't on this team yet, but guys like Brodziak and Granlund are. Benson is a great playmaker in a very unorganized league in the AHL. Imagine how good he'd be in a more fluid league like the NHL (Albeit, EDM isn't exactly structured). The ownership is stuck in the 80's with all these subpar grinders on lines like Kassian. Nuge walks, McDavid requests a trade, and then they'll trade Drai for a RD....

Agreed, and the only reason Nygard is in the top-6 is because Jurco is out with a minor injury right now. Jurco had a much better preseason.

Why bring up Chiarelli in reference to McDavid possibly requesting a trade sometime in the next 3-4 years? It makes zero sense.

Did you watch the game last night? Kassian has pretty decent hands and he's a very good skater.
